"I should have never started the ritual, I shouldn't have started this, I shouldn't..." I muttered as I zipped up the backpack and closed the lid of the tupperware.
I caught sight of a thin bony figure from the corner of my eye. I turned away, stopping myself from glancing at him. Those were the rules. Do not look. He isn't the scarecrow, he isn't the scarecrow, he isn't the scarecrow...
I jumped when he breathed down my neck. I shrieked in terror.
"One hour left..." He hissed. I quickly closed the jar of candies on the kitchen counter and all the cupboards. The Scarecrow Game is one sadistic, innocent game.
"So much for good luck." I muttered as I headed up the stairs.464Please respect copyright.PENANAqFR5PPKifb
Long story short, I summoned a demon in my backyard and now I'll have to close everything that has been opened by it. Every cupboard, every tupperware container, every bag... I sure hope that I can remember everything in my house. If I succeed this... 'mission', I'll have good luck for the rest of the year. I'll be safe financially, physically and mentally.464Please respect copyright.PENANAUTfyYVUGEP
I rummaged through the guest room, slamming the drawers of the nightstand shut. I went into the adjoining bathroom, closing the medicine cupboard, twisting the cap of the toothpaste and the liquid soaps. Everything closed. I dusted my hands together and closed the doors as I left.
I ventured to the end of the hallway to draw the curtains of the large set of French windows close. It was letting in a draft from the backyard. I trembled, pulling my jacket closer to my torso. I should've worn something warmer.
I had been closing the windows when I saw it. The headless body of a farmer's tunic stuffed with dried hay, long, fleshy limbs drooping down towards the muddy ground. It perched on a thick wooden pole. That was the scarecrow.
Its arms moved. I tried not to scream. But I couldn't help it. Oh no. I gave away my location.464Please respect copyright.PENANAvQvV6SD1Uv
The demon started climbing off the pole, it started slow, but it went faster and faster, crawling towards the back door of my house. I cursed.
It was coming for me. It was coming for my head. Literally.
I have to get to the safe room! I remembered the instruction sheet say the demon would be upon me in two minutes tops. I have to run.
I sprinted towards the smaller guest room on the other side of the level. I quickly went in and shut the door. I bolted it and chained it. Was everything closed in here? I checked the cupboard door. I barred the small window and shut the curtains. Then I closed my hands around the golden carved crucifix.464Please respect copyright.PENANADVmNe1Nmma
It was my only hope.
I sat by the far end of the corner in a vain attempt that the scarecrow wouldn't see me. Its a demon, idiot. It can see everything.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
I screamed. 464Please respect copyright.PENANAhW8CYTdCeV
"Get away from me, demon!" I held up the crucifix. "Get away!"464Please respect copyright.PENANAzUG8t0a10o
"Are you okay in there, sweetie?" What? Why was it mother's voice?
"Mom?" I asked. Wasn't she on vacation in the Bahamas?
"Yes, sweetie. It's me. Can you open the door please?"
"There's a demon outside! You need to leave!" I yelled, panting. "Leave the house!"
"Sweetie, there's nothing here. Open the door." Came her response, her voice suddenly hard and steely.
"No!" I screamed again. I was sobbing now. "No!"
"Open the door!" My mom growled. I heard a guttural growl follow. It wasn't my mother. It's the demon!
It was pounding on the door now. I hugged the crucifix closer to myself, screaming for my life and screaming for God. What time is it? How much time until sunrise? How much time would this torture be over?
I stopped screaming and breathed heavily. My throat was raw and throbbing. The pounding stopped too. Did the demon leave already? Clutching the crucifix I crept closer to to the door. I pressed my ear against the painted wood. Silence.
Maybe it's really gone then. I let out a sigh of relief. The game was over.
I dropped the crucifix.
"Screw this game." I muttered and opened the door. Then...
Darkness.

"Hey, look at this." She handed the newspaper to her brother. "Gruesome."
Her brother spooned cereal into his mouth. The headline read, "GIRL'S HEAD RIPPED OFF IN COUNTRYSIDE HOME".
"Ew." He replied, chewing the food. "So, what do you want to do now that mom and dad are gone?"
"Have you ever heard of The Scarecrow Game?"
