The door was swung open by an old looking house elf that bowed as we entered.
“Narcissa!” My mother exclaimed greeting a classy looking half blond half brunette woman.
“So good to see you Pellia, and this must be Alyce? Let me see you…” she eyed me with great thoroughness making me sweat with anticipation of what she thought.
I was quite a pretty girl, and I knew it too. But this was my future mother in law, I wanted her to approve of me. I’d worn my best robes for the occasion, hopefully I looked presentable.
”Draco and Lucius should be-“
A loud burst of green came from the fireplace as the two men arrived.
”We’re here darling.” A tall and very blond man, who I assumed to be Lucius, said as he came into sight.
So did Draco. I must say, he had gotten better looking over the years I’d known him. He was in all black robes, his inherited blond hair combed nicely.
My parents and his shared greetings again, our fathers starting a conversation about the ministry.
”Draco.” I said with little to no emotion while extending my hand.
He took and and gave it a shake. “Alyce, always a pleasure.” I knew he was being like this because his parents were present, I was too. If they weren’t here I wouldn’t have talked to him at all.
”Draco why don’t you take Alyce up to her room, the house elves can get her things.”
He nodded to me and headed up the grand staircase to a set of doors down the hall.
”Your room. Mine is down the hall.” He paused for a second, then said, “We should see your parents off.”
Oh right. They were leaving. I would be left alone in this big house, forced to bond with blondie over here.

I stared out my window for what seemed like forever after my parents left. It was quite a nice view. I could see the mountains and a lake behind the house.
The room I had been provided was extravagant. Instead of the dark theme like the rest of the house, my room was filled with silver and light green decor. It was quite refreshing. I had already unpacked everything, neatly stacked my books and hung my clothes.
I guess with my familiar items in here, it wasn’t half bad.
Eventually I decided to change into basic black robes. I looked into the full length mirror on one of the walls and decided I was not about to redo my hair. My mother wasn’t here to tell me it was “messy” anyway. I tucked my wand into my pocket and opened the large door.
I looked around up and down the hall. Empty.
Time for some exploring.
Dice flew and perched on my shoulder, a favorite place of hers, eager to come with.
”Oh alright, just stay quiet.” She clicked her beak in response.
A dark green carpet lead the way down the hall to another few doors. Draco’s room way a few doors down, but the door was shut and I couldn’t see in. A library came into view, just as large as I’d expect for a house this size.
”Hm. Maybe if Draco spent more time in here he wouldn’t have gotten a terribly low score on our transfiguration test.” I muttered to myself.
At the end of the hall, there was an archway, giving way to a spiral staircase.
”Do we go up?” Dice blinked. “I’ll take that as a yes.”
Careful to not make noise, I crept up the stairs. At the top, I could tell we were in some sort of tower. It was beautiful in here.
Drawings of stars and telescopes were strewn about, different jars and parchment littered the tables on the other side.
“What are you doing up here.” A familiar voice said, coming from my left.
”Merlin’s BEARD Draco. You scared the living hell out of me!” I frowned, Dice giving a little squawk at my outburst.
”You shouldn’t be snooping around then if you’re prone to fear.” He raised an eyebrow and crossed his arms.
I scoffed. “Well, I’m going to be here for three months, I might as well get to know the place.” I crossed my arms similarly to his.
He sighed. “You think I’m any more happy about this than you are? I barely know you. I only ever saw you on passing or in the common room anyway.”
”We are in the same house Draco! You never even made an attempt to talk to me, so I just returned the favor.”
”What did you want me to say, “can’t wait to marry you?!”
I paused.
”Y-you knew about this?”
He looked confused. “You didn’t?”
“My parents told me the beginning of this month!” My shock was beginning to be replaced by anger.
”I’ve known for about a year now. I wonder why your parents never told you sooner.”
I sighed. “There’s a lot of things I wonder about them.” Eager to change the conversation, I asked, “So what is this place?”
”The East Tower. It’s closest to my room so my parents let me have it to myself. I mainly use it for astronomy.” He paused as if to wait for my reaction.
“Astronomy? That’s brilliant! Can you see the stars very well from here?” I asked heading out to the balcony across from us.
”Absolutely, best view in the mansion.” We both leaned against the railing, watching the sun set over the horizon.
Peaceful was the word that best described this moment. Just two people, enjoying each other’s company and nature’s beauty.
”Tell you what, I have to leave with my father for some business, but tonight I’ll show you my favorite constellations.”
”That sounds like a plan.”
Me and him walked back to my room and he left.
To be honest I’d never noticed his looks before. He had the nicest grey eyes…
Ugh. I shook my head of the thought. No way did I just think that Draco Malfoy was good looking. That would mean I was like half the girls in our year, the ones that practically drool over him.
I picked up my book, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and fell asleep reading, dreaming of the stars.
