“You spoil him far too much,” I rolled my eyes a bit as my daughter looked upon us with her usual angry glare towards Daniel. Yes I had a daughter, her name was Fortune… and she was my spirit animal, the spirit of the thunderbird.
I should probably explain more.
I was what was called a late bloomer, meaning I had jepei aura but I never could unlock my spirit animal. Some had theirs from birth, or maybe a year or two after they were born. I unlocked Fortune when I was nearly 10 years old, while I was running for my life. See I am not a native of the land of jepei users, an island about 5000 miles from Florida in a dangerous part of the seas known as the bermuda triangle. I was found deep in the heart of South America, living in one of the last remaining temples of the Mayan people.
Machu Picchu.
I had no where else to go, my odd jepei energy made people dislike me. Think I was demonic. I was drawn to storms, I loved rain and thunder. Some thought I was the daughter of some storm demon but that was not true. I had gone through so much and was nearly sold off to be someone's mistress. I was two months away from turning ten and someone really liked me. I didn’t know what that meant but judging from the clothes they wanted me to wear that night. It was nothing good.
So I ran away and during my chase, Fortune was born and with Fortune being born. I summoned a pair of light blue wings that helped me escape. I flew to the top of the ancient Mayan temple and stayed there until my now daddy. Diego and his wife, now my momma, Ximena found me. They brought me to Tarun Island as they also shared my gifts and helped me learn to control my powers. They found out that I had a rare animal spirit, the reincarnation of the spirit of the thunderbird. I named her Fortune and then after years of having no name, my parents let me name myself on the day I was adopted. I used to be called a freak, demon child, no good, but I took the word that my new parents would always call me and my powers.
Unique.
Unique Fullmoon Flores.
Why Fullmoon? Because I was born on a full moon.
Or at least that was what people told me.
I rolled my eyes softly as I held my finger up to my lips. “Not so loud, he is sleeping.” I looked down at my long time friend, Daniel. He had been practically like a brother to me since I met him nearly five years ago, my first friend on the island. He once had red hair that shined in the sun, and bright red eyes that could chase away the darkness. He had only grown a few inches in the five years since then. His once bright eyes and hair had grown darker and disheveled as he rarely combed or brushed it. He had grown skinnier as he didn’t eat that much anymore. I had found him on the ground with a robe thrown over his frame. He always did roll around a lot in his sleep, I knew this from sleepovers that we used to have. Now I was letting him rest with his head on my lap like a comfy pillow. He rarely slept at night, just getting enough to get through the day. He was either spending that time at night playing video games, reading through his favorite books and writing one of his many novels that he refused to try and get published. I liked his stories but he only wanted his eyes and mine to read them.
He was scared to try and better his life.
It had been like this since his mom and dad died.
I remembered his mom and dad. I used to call them Aunt and Uncle, since they treated me like I was their own. It was common for all adults on the island to treat children like their own, but my bond with his parents was almost as strong as his. The same went for my adoptive parents and Daniel. We lost them both and nearly lost Daniel during the war for the ports, or war of the coast as many called it. The dark order invaded our home one day, and if it was not for Alona Ameko arriving and using her spirit animal to get our fighters up. I would either be dead or enslaved by those that worshiped the darkness. That worshiped a madman they called king. Those that believe because of our abilities we should be the top of every race, even other humans.
Daniel changed in the two years since that day. He hadn’t grieved since the funeral, so it was common for me to show up to Uncle Theodore’s house if I hadn’t heard from him in a few days. My anxiety often led me to thinking that my friend had died, that he had taken his own life. I don’t know what I would do if he took his own life.
I don’t know if I could handle it.
Before those thoughts could enter my head and make my heart start racing faster than I could handle. Someone stepped into the room, right now we were in a comfy room just off the side to this massive underground library. One that I had gotten the right to enter by agreeing to be a part of a team of people to gather more information on relics and objects that were kept hidden down here for some reason. I couldn’t tell anyone other than my parents, and I would receive no glory, honor or praise from the rest of the island for these deeds.
I was fine with that. I didn’t want glory, I needed no honor, and I never liked being praised. I just wanted to learn more about the world, more about history, and I wanted to be beside my friend.
Standing in the doorway of this large room, was another member of this soon to be team. The daughter of one of the five leaders of this island, Lady Hearthstone, Olivia. She was much bigger in comparison to mine and Daniel's skinny forms. She had strong muscles, a rounded body and chest. She looked more like a boy with her low haircut, I had never even heard her speak until last night when we met her. However, if she was on this team then I was no longer worried about any harm that could come. She seemed like a person that would protect us until her dying breath.
“Do you want me to put him back on the couch?” Olivia asked, her voice much lighter than one would think.
I slowly shook my head. “It’s okay, I am used to this.” Daniel often used my lap as a pillow when he would fall asleep outside. He was always embarrassed by this, but I liked it. He was my friend, and I would do anything to help him feel better. Besides, he was cute when he was asleep like this. I ran a hand through his messy hair, wishing I had a comb in my purse that I could use on him. I hadn’t needed one in a very long time as I was currently rocking very long and thin braids. One of my friends convinced me to get these extensions and I really liked them now.
Olivia only nodded her head before setting down a few books beside me. “I found most of what you wanted, there wasn’t a book on the Roc.” The Roc was a large bird of legend, much like Fortune was. Now that I had access to this library, I wanted to find out more about the massive birds of ancient myth and folklore. I wanted to know what made Fortune the queen of them all. She was classed as one of the uncrowned queens of the animal word. A powerful beast but not powerful enough to have been shattered by God. That title was held for three other beasts, The Phoenix, The Behemoth and Leviathan. If the phoenix was the true queen of the skies, I supposed Fortune would be considered the heir to the throne.
“Thank you, Miss Olivia.”
That got a small bit of laughter from the taller girl. “Just call me Olivia or Olive, I’m not old enough to be called Miss yet.” She came over and adjusted the robe that was resting over my shoulders just a bit. She lifted Daniel up just slightly so I could at least stretch my legs out a bit more. “Now you can be a bit more comfy while you read. Do you know why he has been down here asleep?”
“According to his grandma,” I began. “He didn’t have his projection or protection aura up and it had an effect on him. He also came right over here in the morning so he was probably pretty tired.” I smiled down at my friend who shifted slightly in his sleep. “As long as he gets a lot of sleep, I don’t care how it happened. He needs it a lot more than he lets on.”
“How much does he usually sleep?”
I looked up at Olivia and sighed. “Maybe three to four hours a night, sometimes a bit more if he has spent the day training.” My eyes were drawn back to the black bags that now rested under his once flawless face. “Ever since we lost his parents, he hasn’t been the same.”
“Lost can do many things to people.” Olivia responded. “Sometimes it pushes you to the next level, sometimes it hurts so much that you can never move on. Some bounce back, others sink into darkness.”
“H-How can you save someone from that darkness?” I felt a small sniffle escape my lips and I reached up to wipe my face of any tears that might be forming or falling down my light brown skin.
I let out a small yelp as Olivia patted me on the back. “Keep doing what you have been doing, remind your friend that he still has people that care for him. You would be amazed what just being there for someone, just reaching out a hand to someone suffering is often enough to save them and give them strength that they never knew they had.”
“Thank you, Olivia.” I was grateful for her simple but powerful words. “I look forward to working with you, to helping increase the knowledge in this library.”
“I look forward to it as well.” Olivia answered before moving to leave this small chamber. “I would also look at some of the texts that are in this chamber.” She nodded towards the ceiling and I looked up, I never even noticed the golden brown books that were resting above us. “There are pretty good reads, like a small taste of what to expect for this place.”
“I might check them out but right now, there is a certain piece of information that I needed.” I nodded towards my light blue bird. She was currently in a much smaller form, around the size of a normal sized hawk for now. Her true size now was around 20 feet tall with an even bigger wingspan. “Oh I never introduced you, this is Fortune, she is the spirit of the thunderbird.” I reached out and patted the head of Daniel’s animal spirit, a large dark red fox with nine tails. “And this is Flame, Daniel’s animal spirit.”
Olivia smiled down at the two animal spirits before gripping her own gemstone. It shined a deep brown and I was surprised to see an ape around my height if not a bit smaller appeared. She was actually wearing light brown clothes that seemed to be made of jepei. It looked like light brown pants and a light brown vest with interesting symbols carved onto each side. She had a long tail that wrapped around her waist. Honestly she looked like a small child and it wasn’t for her monkey head and her hand like feet. I don’t think anyone would have been able to tell the difference at first glance. “This is my cheeky little monkey spirit, Victoria. The current princess of the ape spirits.”
“Monkey queen,” I heard her mumble under her breath.
“You can take that title once you stop acting like such a child.” Olivia replied.
“You can take that title once you stop acting like such a-” the small ape began in a high pitched mocking voice but a hard pop to her backside got her to be quiet for a moment. “Fine I’ll stop mocking you.”
“Isn’t it weird,” I asked, watching our animal spirits move off to the side to seem to chat a bit more away from our ears. “Our entire team is gonna have those with mystical animal spirits.”
“Not weird,” Olivia remarked, sitting down on a nearby chair. “It is gonna make our team stronger. If what my mo-” She stopped herself before responding. “If what Lady Hearthstone says is true, they have dormant knowledge of the world from past users. It is gonna come in handy, especially in our search for the Tower of Babel. What could that place have that the council wants to know or keep safe?”
“I have no idea,” I answered. “It must be important and I want to know more about it, something that could help prove that events that happened in the old testament are fact would help a lot of things.”
“In what ways?”
“Well one of the cornerstones of my faith, is blessed is he that believes but has never seen.” I said softly. “We don’t need to see our savior or his father, or even The Holy Spirit to believe in them. However, some need a push and maybe if we find this tower of babel, it will help people believe a bit more.”
“So you are a Christian.”
“I try my best to be, but I still make mistakes.”
“Everyone does, I’m pretty sure your savior says it’s okay to make mistakes or something like that.”
I nodded my head. “Yeah but I still want to be better, it’s the least I could do but I can’t give up one thing, something that is keeping me from taking steps closer to him.”
“Isn’t that the truth,” she mumbled. She then spoke to me in a lower whisper. “Has your animal spirit asked anytime about their past users or wanted information about them?”
I thought about it for a moment. “No, if anything I was the one that wanted to find out about other ancient bird spirits, and more about her lineage. Why do you ask?”
“No reason.” She was lying, well not lying but not revealing her true motive for asking that question and I didn’t have the courage yet to ask her about it. “I was just wondering,” she answered before reaching onto the pile of books that she had brought me. “It is a good thing, I got a few things for myself. Perhaps it would be better to talk quietly with a new friend rather than go read by myself.” She smiled at me when she said that. “Maybe chat with two of them,” she added, looking towards her animal spirit. “I hope you don’t mind if my daughter annoys your sister.”
“I am sure my winged daughter wouldn’t mind,” I said.
“So your a late bloomer as well,” Olivia answered.
“Yes I am.”
“I think I am gonna like being on the same team as you, Unique.”
“I-I think I am gonna like this as well, Olivia.”

I loved the feeling of flying, it was probably the best gift that I could have been blessed with. There was something about soaring so high in the sky without fear of human error or some sudden mishap that could bring me crashing to the sky. I was not a fan of planes, helicopters or even hot air balloons, all those took one accident before crashing back to the ground. However thanks to Fortune, I could make a pair of light blue wings from my own jepei aura it made getting around the island much easier. I flew forward and grabbed Daniel’s gemstone, to use another one of our blessings to connect my thoughts to his. It would last for at most 24 hours and could be severed by either of us at anytime, but it was rare when we did that. Daniel was currently riding on the back of Fortune.
“Sorry about Fortune,” I remarked as I flew beside them. Fortune didn’t like giving Daniel rides in the air, especially because she wanted me to start making him pay for it. “She is just being cheeky.”
His voice hit the back of my head like a faint whisper. “She hasn’t liked me since I left you alone that day.” His face grew saddened as he looked away from me and at the ground. A year after the war for the port, a holiday was made to honor the lives we lost that day, to honor the hero that saved us, and celebrate our victory over the dark order. A group of jepei users that believed that we should be the dominant race because of our abilities, they believed that jepei users were meant to rule over animals and non jepei users, and they worshiped a false idol. A false king named Lord Blackthorn. I had built up the courage the previous evening to invite Daniel to come with me to the party. I needed a dance partner… I wanted this to be our first actual date.
It was no secret to my friends, my adoptive mom and dad, my adoptive sisters and brothers. That I had probably the biggest crush in the world on Daniel. I had fallen head over heels for him the first time we met, there was something about him that I thought was cute. That childhood crush quickly turned into stronger feelings that I didn’t know how to act on. However, when his parents died, those feelings that he might have held for me were gone. He let me in just enough to be his best friend and put down any attempts I could make to break past that.
So I invited him to spend the day with me, I had everything planned. Where we would go, what to do, I had the perfect place to take him. My 14 year old heart had watched every Disney romance movie, had read my favorite scenes from books and other mediums. I had everything planned and I was so excited I could barely sleep. He promised me he would be there, we had never broken a promise to each other. So I waited, and waited, and waited some more. I called him over and over to make sure he was still coming, and he never answered. I made excuses for him, I told people that saw me waiting outside of the festival grounds that I was still waiting for a friend to come. When the sun set, he never came, and it hurt a lot. All the while Fortune had been shaking with rage and anger, until finally it blew up. She took off like a bolt of lightning and when I arrived I saw her peaking and clawing at Daniel. A storm was starting to grow above them, and I remember hearing her scream. “You hurt my momma!”
However even then I let it go cause I knew why he didn’t come. “I understood why you didn’t come,” I thought to him. “You were still hurting and you still are hurting from their deaths. I am sorry that she hurt you that day.” I know he still held a scar on his side from when Fortune had stabbed her beak into. I was very cross with her that day for hurting my friend so much. However, she was a part of my soul and her anger towards Daniel that day, was what I had felt as well, I just didn’t act on it. She was often my strength and anger when I let things wash off my back like a duck.
I was a coward sometimes and she was not.
Daniel shook his head making his unkempt hair shake a bit with it. “Don’t be sorry, I hurt you more that day.” He finally looked over at me with apologetic eyes. “I broke a promise to you that day, and I will never do that again.” He tried to save face as he added. “Besides, it didn't hurt that much.”
“Yes it did, you don’t have to play strong with me, Daniel.”
My friends rolled his eyes before adding. “I will try not to…. And can we never talk about what happened today?”
“You crying today?” I asked, turns out his father’s greatsword and his mother’s cracked netrix gemstone were down in the hidden library. In a place called the hall of the fallen, a place to honor heroes that lost their lives to battle. Those that were down there would have their entire life stories written and added to history books. Daniel hadn’t cried in nearly two years, but when he saw his parents' relics, all he could do was stare at them. And all I could do was wrap my arms around him and simply whisper. It’s okay. While he cried out his heart for a good hour. I found the courage to give him a small smirk as I added. “Or you using my lap as a pillow twice today?”
His face blushed a bit at my last comment as he added. “The latter, I am pretty sure that your adoptive dad would murder me if he found out what happened down there.”
I began to laugh at that, my daddy did nearly kill him for the time we had been a bit too close during a firework display when we were kids. I was his little girl and after a few things I had gone through, he didn’t want any other male whether adult or boy being too touchy with me. I looked over at Daniel who had the smallest of grins spreading across his lips. I held my arms open to him, inviting him into my arms, my friends didn’t even hesitate to stand up on Fortune’s back and jumped off into my arms. We crashed into each other, our arms wrapping around each other and I tucked my wings in, we began to spin about and fall from the sky. Yet I wasn’t afraid, I would never be scared, cause as long as we held onto each other we would be okay.
He smiled at me, that warm smile that I had missed so much. I found myself leaning towards him and my heart skipped a beat as he started to do the same. “Please,” I thought, knowing he could hear me. “Please Daniel.”
Yet he pulled his head away. “I’m sorry,” was all he said back before looking away from me.
I couldn’t quite hide my disappointment, as I flipped him over in my arms so his back was now against my chest. I don’t know what hurt most, knowing that we felt the same about each other but one of us could never act on it.
Or knowing that we felt the same about each other and we could never be together.

I had just gotten out of the shower for the night. My body barely having enough energy to keep me standing. Today was officially going down in my top five best days of my life. I found out what the surprise was that my family and Daniel’s had planned for us. When we arrived at Daniel’s house, the entire backyard was decked out with tables and dishes. His uncle and my daddy had brought their grills out and already had begun grilling an arrangement of meats and my favorite kinds of seafood. My mother and Daniel’s aunt had prepared our favorite side dishes and the evening was just a celebration for me and Daniel being invited onto this team. Since our families were the only ones that could know what our mission was, only they were invited to this party. Which was a bit saddening, oftentimes if one family started grilling, that was all it took for the entire block to start cooking as well and suddenly what was once a meal for one family, turned into a festival for the entire area.
As I slipped on my pajamas and headed out of the bathroom for the night. I found my momma sitting on my bed. She had light mixed skin, long brown and gray hair, with a matching pair of loving gray eyes. She was shorter than me by only a few inches, aside from my daddy I was the tallest in the family. She was wearing a pair of black pajama pants and a tank top with one of the thin straps spilling off her shoulder. She was technically the one that found me on top of Machu Picchu nearly five years ago now. She was the only woman in my life up till now, that had been truly kind to me. She sat with me underneath a fire that night just talking with me, until finally I felt safe enough to come down the temple with her. She promised me one thing that night.
“You are gonna be safe.”
She stood from my bed and gathered me into her arms for a very long hug. Her breath smelled of her favorite rose scent tea, her entire body smelled like fresh flowers. “When I first found you at that temple, I never thought that you would be given such an important title my dear. I should have guessed it though, a small child surviving a top an ancient temple with the spirit of the thunderbird trapped inside of her. I should have guessed that my Unique would be so special.”
“Stop it,” I said back resting my head on her shoulder. “You're making me blush.”
“Not as much as your little friend seems to make you blush,” my cheeks heated up a bit more at that. “Some would think that your complexion really was pretty pink.”
“Mama stop it.”
She only laughed the same hearty laughter that some might think was thunder. “I will stop teasing you for now.” She said breaking our hug but kept a hold of my hand. “Come on, there is something me and your papa want to show you before you rest for the night.” She led me from my room down the hallway towards the master bedroom. She gave a small shout as my two younger brothers ran past us, Miguel chasing after Diego who was laughing. I peeked into my older sister’s room, Julia, she was sitting on her bed in the long process of braiding my little sister’s, Riana, hair into tightly wound braids. She was the only one that did it soft enough to not get the little girl to start whining. They had all welcomed me into their family five years ago, and I loved them all as if I was their blood sister.
My mama took me inside of their bedroom. A large space that had a large king sized bed sitting in the middle, a large chest was in front of the bed where our dog, a beautiful German shepard was sleeping on top. The large window across the room was open letting in the soothing summer breeze. Just feeling that breeze hit my face let me know that a small storm was almost here, I could feel the thunder from here. My dad was sitting atop their beautiful handmade blanket of different colors and symbols. He had tanned skin, wavy brown hair, and sparkling deep pink eyes. He was wearing a tank top and long pajama pants, his hand playing around with his beard as he watched a baseball game on television. He still had the record for homeruns for the island baseball team. Something he held onto with a lot of pride.
His eyes turned from the screen and onto me. “Unique,” he spoke his portuguese accent being as thick as storm clouds that were approaching. “My precious one,” he patted the spot beside. “Sit down with me for a moment, me and mama have something for you.”
My eyes were then drawn onto the large black box that almost rested on top of one of the few darker colors on their blanket. “What is it?” I asked, climbing up onto their large bed, a small giggle escaped me as my dad kissed my forehead.
My momma joined me a moment later and they both shared an oddly serious glance with each other. “W-What is wrong?” I asked.
“Well, darling.” My momma began. “Your father and I haven’t been completely honest with you for a while. It was something that we found in your old home that we kept from you until you were ready.”
My papa took over. “The day your mama found you, she also found something in your pants pocket that night.” He lifted the box off the bed and opened it up. Inside of that box was what looked to be some kind of necklace. He carefully took it out of the box and stretched it out in front of me. This necklace had at least 15 other strings tied around it. Some of these smaller robes had knots tied into them.
My eyes went wide as I remembered what this was. “You had my necklace this entire time?” I asked looking at my adoptive parents for answers. “I thought I lost it,” it was the one thing that I kept around my neck while I was in South America. I always thought that it belonged to my birth parents. When I came to the island and realized that it was missing, I nearly had a panic attack. “W-Why did you hide this from me?” I ask, taking it into my hands and holding the old odd necklace in my hands, grateful for its touch once more.
“It is not a necklace,” my mother said.
“Than what is it?” I asked spreading it out and looked at it with a bit more interest.
My papa was the one to explain. “I am surprised by your studies in native american culture and the civilizations that once called South America their home. That you never saw a quipu before.”
My eyes went wide at that revelation. A Quipu was a form of writing used by the ancient Incan’s, it was also known to them as talking knots. It was their writing system. I looked over what I had always assumed was a necklace once more. It was made of three different colors, a deep orange red, a light green, and a light brown. I counted out 22 small strings tied to the larger one, 12 of them were brown, six of them were a deep orange red, and the last four were green. The green ones being on the end of each side of this quipu, the green ones each had three knots tied into them. The brown ones that made up the center of this quipu had two knots tied into each of them. “What does it mean?”
“From what me and your father have gathered. We know that the brown knots each have a total of two hundred on each string and all together have a total of about 2400. The green ones have a total of 1200 hundred, or three hundred for each string. It has a total of 3600 as far as a number goes if we add them together. It’s the orange red knots that we do not know.” My mother explained as she pointed out that the orange red strings had been tied in an odd way. They almost looked like wings and resided right in the middle of the string. “From what we have studied, the incan’s didn’t use that kind of knot.”
“I know you are probably upset with us,” My papa spoke out. “We didn’t know that you were so attached to this necklace. The reason we took it was to see what it was, turns out the council saw that it was very important, this was made by a jepei user around 700 years ago. We have been trying find relics or objects of jepei users from the incan’s and mayans but that proves to be a harder task than originally thought. We recently got this back from Grandmaster Matsumoto, or the keeper of the temple of five. She said that now that you have been added to this team, it was only right to return what they took. To keep information like this from someone whose job is to gather information goes against what they believe.”
“It’s okay,” I remarked as I took this quipu back.
“Do you remember where you got it from?” My father asked.
I shook my head. “I barely remember things that happened back in my old home,” or rather I choose to forget certain things that happened in Peru.
It hurts too much to think about it.

When I was finally released from my parent’s room. I couldn’t help but sit on the railing of my bedroom window, and watch the growing storm clouds. Each flash of lightning sent strength running through my vines, each booming beat of thunder was comfortable to me. I was still looking at my old necklace that I now knew was an old Incan Quipu. My eyes were more drawn towards the six winged shaped knots that were tied into them. I sighed as my eyes traveled up to where Fortune was flying. She looked like a blur of lightning as she raced through the clouds. I could always tell where my little bird was, well she was not so little anymore. She used to be the size of a small parrot, but now was much taller than me when she was in her full form. However, right now she chooses to be the size of a large hawk.
I clasped a hand on my gemstone before focusing and connecting my thoughts to Daniel. We were still connected right now as neither of us had truly served the connection yet. “Danny,” I said using his old nickname. “I have a question.”
It took a moment for him to reply. “Can you not call me Danny, it is Daniel.” He sounded a bit upset, I had a feeling he probably died in one of those shooting battle royal games he was addicted to right now. “What is it, Unique?”
“Be honest with me,” I began. “Do you think it is wrong that the council keeps certain information away from us?” I was a bit bothered that they had taken this quipu for me. I was supposed to trust the council of five, but right now I was conflicted. If I hadn’t been put on this team, I might not have gotten this simple thing back. It technically was mine but that didn’t give them the right to just take it.
“Honestly…” Daniel went quiet for a bit. “I don’t know, I never really thought about it, but if some of those relics, and texts are enough to drop younger people to their knees if they're not careful, maybe it is right.”
“I don’t know,” I remarked. “There has to be safer ways of translating it so everyone can know. I mean we can’t even tell our friends what our jobs are. It just seems a bit weird.”
“It’s how adults always say, they are doing what is best for us.”
“Sometimes doing what is best is not what is right.”
“Having second thoughts about this?” Daniel asked.
I shook my head. “No… just thinking about it a bit more has me with more questions than answers.”
“Well we have access to a library of hidden information. Perhaps our answers lay somewhere down there.” I smiled a bit at that, for the longest time we had another pact with each other. My questions were his questions, his questions were my questions, and we would work together to find answers. “We can go back tomorrow.”
“Are you gonna use my lap as a pillow again?” I asked with a small giggle.
“Good night, Unique,” he responded in an annoyed tone and I felt the tread that kept us connected right now snap and I was alone with just my own thoughts. I let out a small yawn as I stood up from my window and closed it. The rain was starting to come down and the wind was picking up, I didn’t want my computer to get damaged because I forgot to close the window. “Fortune, please come back before midnight.”
“I don’t know what midnight is,” I heard her respond back. “I am a bird and I have different time values.”
“You can come back now if you keep talking back to me, little bird.”
“I am nearly 20 feet tall now, I am not a little bird anymore.”
“You will always be my little bird, no matter how big you get.” I said with a laugh, as I watched her quickly fly up her entire body seemingly becoming one with the storm. “Now be back by midnight or I will remind you that you are a little bird, am I understood?”
“Yes momma,” I could practically feel her roll her eyes at that last statement.
I was about to go to bed, but this was still bothering me. I needed to know what this meant… and thanks to that dinner the other night. I knew a certain little girl that could read and speak nearly every language on the earth.
So instead of laying down and watching television. I put on my raincoat, and a backpack before heading out in the storm to the west side of the island.
I needed to talk with Sarah Springchaser.
