Walking into school the next day, I was ecstatic. Not for the usual reasons, meaning that I got a hundred on a big test, or that I didn’t come home covered in eggs last night. No, it was because Colton Hunter should have gotten a surprise this morning, and I wanted to see it. Do you know how much time and energy it took to sneak into his room and put the powdered chalk into his blow dryer? Stupid boy. He spends more time in the mirror than I do.
I saw through my bangs that he had stalked inside the school doors, and sure enough, his entire head of hair was a bright, neon pink, with numerous people staring at him. Yay! ...And he was coming my way with a positively murderous expression. Not so yay. I gathered my things, slammed my locker shut, and bolted off to class.
I came in as the tardy bell rang and sat down quickly in my seat. Colton dashed in right after me, and smiled dazzlingly at the teacher. “We’re sorry for almost being late, ma’am. My friend there is flushed because she just discovered her monthly and forgot her tampon. Do I have permission to bring her to the nurse’s office?”
The whole class started whispering, and I shrunk down in my seat, sure that I was going to be the next talk of gossip central.
The teacher looked taken aback. “Su-sure,” she scribbled a pass and shoved it at him. “You may go.”
I gave him the death glare once we got into the hallway. “I. AM. GOING. TO. KILL. YOU.”
He looked like he was holding back laughter. “I am well aware, you deserved it.”
But I was past the point of comprehending words. “I. AM. GOING. TO. SCATTER. YOUR. ENTRAILS. FROM. HERE. TO. ENGLAND.”
His smile faded. “You don’t mean that. Right?”
“YOU. ARE. SO. DEAD.” I fumed.
He looked more and more nervous with every word I said. “Um… ha.. ha… Since I got us out of class, I’ll take you home. OK?” He smiled sheepishly. He dragged me to his car and shoved me in the backseat.
“Why am I in the backseat?!”
He looked over his shoulder, like it was perfectly normal. “Because I don’t want you to send me back to Nymphu- I mean, kill me. Figuratively, of course.”
I narrowed my eyes at him, but let him get away with that one since I figured that I scared him enough.
Once we arrived home, I got out of the car and took out my keys. “Thanks Colton.” I grudgingly said.
He mock gasped. “Is little Ms. Heardt actually apologizing?”
