"And that ends class. Be sure to start studying for your test next week." The class put down their pens and pencils, relieved the class was finally over. Travis put his pen down and slumped forward. "That was a lot of writing…"
Chris turned to face Travis. "Did you get even half of what he was saying?"
"More or less…how about you?"
"Not even close."
Travis smirked and looked ahead towards the front of the class. He was about to put his book away when he heard Chris say, "Uh…dude…"
Travis looked at Chris, who was looking at the entrance to the class. There, standing in the doorway, was Jennifer. You have got to be kidding me…how did she get here so fast?
Jennifer walked up to Travis. "So, Travis, I got a text from Mom asking what we wanted for dinner, yet she hadn't heard a reply from you."
"Sorry. I was put in a pit of hell writing thousands of notes. Didn't find time to squeeze off a response."
"So, what would you like? I asked for tacos."
"That sounds good to me."
Jennifer leaned in closer and whispered, "So, is it that girl next to you?"
"Shut up. None of your business."
"Oh hoh. Someone got defensive. I'll be back next break for an introduction."
"Please don't…"
Jennifer walked away. "See you later bro."
Travis just stared as Jennifer walked out. Sighing, Travis started putting his book away. "Is she your sister?"
Travis turned and looked at Mary. "Yep, that's her."
"She seems nice."
Travis chuckled. "Just be sure not to take the tv on Wednesdays…she'll tie you up and throw you in a closet, literally."
Mary started laughing. "I guess that happened to you?"
"Just once. Learned my lesson after that."
Mary giggled. As Travis was about to continue the conversation, Chris tapped Travis on the shoulder. "What's the next class again? I forgot."
"History."
"Ah, thanks."
Chris took out his history book right when the bell rang. The next teacher walked into class. "Alright class, back to your seats." Travis took his history book from his backpack and put it on his desk. Finally, a good class today.
History was Travis's favorite class. Ever since he was little, he loved learning about history, and people started referring to him as a walking history book.
The class occurred with no incidents, except Chris sneezing loudly in the class, causing the teacher to jump slightly in surprise. As the bell rang, the teacher set down the marker for the whiteboard. "Alright class, enjoy the rest of the day. I'll see you tomorrow."
Travis put the finishing touches on his notes and nodded, satisfied. He heard Mary sigh next to him. "Tough class?"
Mary turned and looked at him. "History has never been my strong subject."
Christ put his arm around Travis. "Well, Travis here has the nickname of, 'The Walking History Book.' He could help you with history."
Mary looked surprised. "You're good with history?"
Travis blushed slightly and scratched his head. "Yeah…ever since I was little, I loved history. I could help you if you want…"
Mary smiled. "I'd love that!"
Mary's energetic response stunned him for a moment. "Alright, when would you like me to help you?"
"Let's see…today's Friday…how about you come over tomorrow and help tutor me?"
"S-sure!"
"Can I see your phone?"
Travis took his phone from his pocket and typed in the passcode to unlock the phone. After handing it to her, Mary typed rapidly on the screen before handing the phone back to him. "That's my number. You can text me later and ask for the address."
"Address for what?"
Travis's eyes turned wide as he looked to his right. There stood Jennifer, looking at Travis. "I-I'm helping Mary study history."
"So you're finally getting some social plans other than stick at home all day with Chris?"
Travis turned red and looked away. Mary started giggling. "You're his sister, right?"
"Yep. My name's Jennifer. "What's yours?"
"Mary."
"Nice to meet you Mary."
The bell rang again, signaling class to begin again. "I have to head back to my class. See you later!"
Jennifer dashed out of class. Travis let out a soft sigh of relief as he prepared for the next class. As the teacher walked in, he felt his phone buzz. Seeing it was a text from Jennifer, he opened it. "Seems like a nice girl. You may have finally gotten a keeper for once. DON'T SCREW IT UP!"
Travis rolled his eyes and put his phone in his pocket, hoping the teacher didn't see his phone out. The last thing he wanted was to read the last text he received aloud to the class. "Alright class, please turn to page…"
As the teacher began his lesson, Travis started writing down notes for the class until a piece of paper landed in front of him. "You can thank me later for setting you two up tomorrow."
Travis glanced at Chris, who was pretending to be looking at his book. Travis crumpled the paper up and put it in his backpack. As he continued to write, his heart started beating faster, the past several minutes finally sinking into his head. I—I get to go to her house tomorrow! Of course it's to help her study…but this is the first time I've ever gone and seen a girl I liked outside of class! And I got her number! Things are absolutely perfect right now!
Travis started grinning until another piece of paper landed next to him. "You're blinding me again."
Travis suppressed a chuckle, wrote "Shut up!" as a response, and sent the paper back. Travis sneaked a peak of Mary looking at the teacher, paying attention in class.
I just hope I don't screw this up!
