Travis and Chris were walking home after school, Chris fake shielding his eyes from Travis. "Dude, you need to stop glowing. You're starting to blind me."
Travis only smiled wider. "It has to be fate! It just has to be! The day after my heart was shattered, the gods of love send me a beautiful angel to mend my broken heart."
"Dude, she's just a transfer student who was scheduled to be here. Yeah, it sure does help she came after you were rejected…"
"Exactly! It's fate!"
"I wouldn't call—shhhh!"
Chris put a finger on Travis's lips, signaling him to be quiet. "What are you doing?"
"SHHH!"
Travis looked up to see a petite blonde walking in front of them. Chris cracked his knuckles. "Dude, you can go home alone. I have a date with destiny." Chris mock saluted Travis and ran ahead of him. Travis sighed and shook his head. When will he learn…
Travis walked the remaining portion to his house alone. When he arrived, he unlocked the door and entered the house. "Mom? You home?"
After not hearing an answer, Travis took out his phone to text his mother, but remembered that she went to the doctor's with his grandfather. Travis put his phone back in his pocket and went to the kitchen to grab a quick snack. While eating from a bag of chips, Travis's mind wandered to earlier that day, from meeting Mary to talking to her a few times after class. Travis smiled, not hearing the front door open and close.
"We really did hit it off."
"Oh no, you're not interested in another girl already are you?"
Travis looked back and saw his sister Jennifer. "Who said it was a girl? Maybe I just made a guy friend and we hit it off."
"The only guy friend you have is that Chris character."
Jennifer's face changed to a smirk. "So, who is it? Who's your next victim?"
"Like I would tell you, and she's not a 'victim'!"
"So you DO like someone already huh? Maybe I'll show her all your baby pics, or better yet, tell her how many women you confessed to! It'll be a riot!"
"Shut up!"
"Come on, tell me who it is! I PROMISE I won't tell anyone."
"Yeah right."
"Alright, suit yourself, but don't be surprised if your loving sis enters your classroom during breaks to find out who it is. I'll be asking questions."
Jennifer winked at Travis and walked away. "Hmph, leave it to her to try to ruin my mood."
Travis's phone buzzed. Taking it out of his pocket, he saw it was a text from Chris. "Mind if I come over to play some vid gamez?"
Travis smirked. "I thought u had a date with destiny."
After a few seconds, Travis received the reply. "Turns out destiny has a jealous boyfriend."
Travis laughed. "Fine, come on over."
Travis set his phone down and ate a few more handfuls of chips before putting the bag away. He walked upstairs to his room, changed into more comfortable clothes. After he changed, he turned on his game system and put in Call of Battle 4. He soon heard the doorbell ring and ran down to open it.
Before he could reach the door, he heard his sister's voice. "Chris, how good to see you."
Travis immediately ran to Chris. "Let's go dude. Call of Battle awaits."
Chris and Travis scrambled to Travis's room and shut the door. After starting a multiplayer match, the room was soon filled with the sound of bullets and explosions, perfectly concealing the sound of the door cracking open.
"So, dude, why were you pushy in bringing me to your room."
"She's being nosy."
"Nosy?"
"Jennifer is trying to figure out who I like."
Chris started snickering. "She's always been like that. So, did you tell her it was Mary?"
"Shhhh idiot! The walls have ears you know."
"The walls…ears…what?"
"It means that things have a way of being leaked from a closed room. Not a WORD about it, alright?"
The rest of the day was filled with playing multiplayer matches, eating dinner, and finishing homework. Around eleven at night, Travis fell asleep.
As Travis walked to school the next morning, he met up with Chris. "Dude…why is your sister behind you? I've never seen that before."
"As I said yesterday, she's trying to figure out who I like. I'm still not telling her."
"I don't think you should tell her ever."
Travis laughed. "Amen to that."
As they arrived at school, they walked into the classroom and sat at their desks. Travis took out his book he needed for the class. Mary entered the room a few seconds later and sat down at her desk. "Hi Travis."
"Oh, hi Mary! How are you doing today?"
"Tired…I'm definitely not a morning person."
Travis chuckled. "I don't think very many people are. If I ever find one…I must know the secret of their success!"
Mary started giggling. "You must share it with me then!"
The bell started ringing and the teacher entered the room. "Alright class, quiet down. We have a lot to cover today and not a lot of time, so I don't want any distractions. I'm looking at you Chris."
Chris acted like he had no idea why the teacher was picking on him. "Why, whatever do you mean my adoring teacher?"
The teacher merely shook his head. "Alright, now, please turn to page…"
As the class started, Travis stole a glance at Mary, who was moving her brown hair behind her ear and looking at her textbook. He quickly turned his glance back to his book and tried to pay attention in class.
