" Billy Was a Ghost"
It was like any other weekend in 1958.
Tommy and I were sitting on his back porch and reading the latest Superman comic and drinking Coca-Cola.
We were just talking and reading and drinking soda.
When Dennis Mcdoodle walked behind the fence and said come here for a second.
We wouldn't usually come so easily, but it was Dennis he was usually pretty nice to us.
Even though he was a little bit older.
He asked us, if we knew Billy MacCalister.
We said, you mean that annoying little kid with the thick glasses?
Dennis said yeah, Him!
Dennis ask how would we like to play a joke on him?
Tommy and I looked at each other and said yeah!
So we followed Dennis out to the woods, right behind Tommy's house.
Dennis asked us to grab a shovel so we did and continued into the woods.
We got a little way into the woods and we started digging a hole about the length and width of 'ol' Billy.
We asked Dennis what we were doing.
He said we're going act like Billy is dead.
Oh! We said that's funny!
We finished the mock grave and Dennis made a wooden headstone with Billy's name on it.
We couldn't stand Billy, he would follow any kid that was outside and interfere with their games and conversations.
So anyway it was Saturday morning and I followed Tommy back to his house and here came Billy talking loudly and following us.
So Tommy and I switched the conversation about Billy being dead.
Billy starts yelling and running in front of us.
We just ignored him and kept talking about how much we liked him and missed him,and wanted to pay or respects to him one last time.So we kept walking until we got to the wood and finally till we got to the mock grave.
Billy saw it and screamed all the way home.
It was going to be funny ,he'll think he's dead all day until his mom gets home.
He only had his mom , he what some called a latchkey kid.
So he was alone a good part of the day by himself.
After that joke we played, we didn't see Billy much after that. I wonder why?
