It takes just one star to pierce a universe of darkness
"She'll be headed straight to me." Eros said with a smile as he hung up his mobile. The alleys of San Francisco smelled putrid to him at this time of night. The time where the blood of those that past him were filled with alcohol. It puzzled him how some vampires could live like that. Feeding off of the drunk, sick, and dying.
The black leather jacket he wore complemented his pale skin, though it was shit against the occasional chills. Passing by a store mirror, he glanced briefly at his reflection for a moment. A luxury that vampires don't have but he alone possesses.
His blue eyes were the first thing he noticed. They remained him of the California oceans that he's never gotten to see in the daylight. The second were his average sharp facial features. Following that was the outfit he chose. A black jacket over a dark grey button up with dark jean and combats.
He was the one thing thousands of vampires, wolves, and fae feared. Yet, he looked no different than an average twenty-something college student.
He tried not to make a habit of staring too much, his brothers even scolded him. It's hard to pretend you're a vampire if people know you have a reflection. But it was difficult. He's too damn beautiful. Everyone that looked at him told him just as much. And the Unseelie Queen reminded him of it nearly every day. His beauty was the one of the many reasons she saved him, after all.
And the reason she gave him his name. Eros. Love. She's in love with him and has been for a long time. It couldn't be anymore cliché than that.
A young child saved by the most powerful Fae Queen, just to become her husband. There were more reasons behind it, he was sure of it. However, the fact that she wanted him as a lover superseded everything.
But he knew he could only put her off for so long before he had to confess. She wanted him to be hers, but she could never be his.
He preferred someone more slender, quiet, mysterious yet honest. A person who's humble and loyal. Who grew up in one of the lowest classes a vampire could be in yet refused to climb the social ladder.
A stubborn person who would rather take a night job as a cleaner for a small hidden restaurant instead of taking his money.
A person with soft black hair, and tan skin, with a thick South Asian accent.
A person who tries to fight his internal darkness yet drops to their knees the moment Eros orders him to.
Eros turned into the familiar dark alleyway lined on either side with bricks. On one side, was a thick rusted door with a red 'No Trespassing' sign bolted to it, and on the other side, was an iron clad emergency stairwell that was starting to rust. Underneath it was a collection of large dumpster cans that shockingly enough, never overfilled.
The gravel rippled underneath his boots as he stepped into his common embrace. The deep shadows gave him comfort as he slipped into them, blending himself in the darkness as he waited.
Ten minutes went by as Eros waited for the one thing that gave his life meaning. The person who was the star that brighten the darkness that constantly surrounded him. From the moment they've met when he was sixteen, they've always been the center of his everything. His entire being.
The rusted door opened as his beloved stepped out into the night air. Waves of loud and irritating voices faded out as the door closed behind him. His beloved strolled off the single small step as he hauled the trash bags over to the dumpster. 160Please respect copyright.PENANALNy4LCKPP8
Eros hated the stiff neat white and black uniform his job made him wear. He preferred his mate in an attire that was softer, like silk.
Heaving one trash bag over his head into the dump and then another, Eros took careful appreciation of his beloved's silhouette. He's thinner than he was a month ago, but his muscles are still lean and defined.
His cheeks look hollowed and his skin was starting to become burned around the edges. The effect of Eros's blood was beginning to wear off on his mate. He desperately needed to feed. And luckily Eros needed him tonight.
"Beloved." Eros whispered lovingly. His deep voice carried through the air like the caress of a wolf's growl. Dark, husky, and dangerous.
His beloved flinched for a moment, but then his body relaxed like a predator. Within a breath, he was taken from his shadows and pressed against a wall. Eros expected his beloved's resistance. He was always hesitant at first glance.
"I hate being called that." His beloved hissed. In the light, Eros could see how much of a toll his absence took on him. But his grip on the front of Eros's neck made him smile. It was cute to see the front his beloved put up despite being so weak.
With an unnatural grace that he shouldn't possess, Eros flipped the duo around so that it was his hand on his beloved neck instead. He gripped harder than before to show the difference between them.
"Beloved," He said again. "I missed you."
"Eros-" Eros silenced him by sliding the pad of his thumb over his beloved's bottom lip.
"You know my name, Beloved." He pushed his thumb up to one of the fangs as his mate began to tremble in anticipation and hunger, still, and then tremble again. "You need to feed."
"The wind has ears." He said, trying and failing to ignore his hunger.
Eros's blood did things to his beloved vampire that shouldn't be possible. Things that would be considered an abomination in their world to some and a gift that should only be reserved for the highest of nobles to others.
He took his beloved's warning and with a breath transferred the both of them through the shadows and out the other side. His beloved's back dipped from a cold brick wall to the soft warm silk of a bed. Their bed, in their well guarded pent house on the other side of the city.
"What the— that's not what I meant. Send me back. The boss will fire me!" His beloved cried.
"I'll reimburse you." Eros pushed off of him and took off his jacket. He stalked over to the cushioned chair that sat beside their bed.
"You know I don't want your money." He hissed.
"No," Eros sighed. "But you do need my blood."
Taking his place on it, he rolled up the right arm cuff. In the corner of his eye, he noticed his beloved watching him from his place on the bed.
"Tarak. I have a request of you." He looked away to the ceiling to floor glass windows that accompanied their pent house. "No one else is capable of this. I need a day-walker."
His beloved tensed at the sound of that term.
"There's a woman. Someone powerful." Eros thought about lying to him but he knew that his beloved would see past it. "Her presence is a threat to my sister."
"But I thought you only had brothers?" Tarak questioned.
"My real sister, beloved." Eros replied. "Killing her has proven... difficult. Even if I had, I'll have an army of the Laibon after me." He whispered the last part. "You see, she's coming for me. In a few days."
"What do you need from me?"
Eros glanced over to his beloved. "Come to me." Tarak stood up from the bed.
"No," Eros shook his head as his voice dipped in a husky tone. "Crawl to me, beloved."
His beloved froze for a moment as he tried to process what he just heard. He took a breath and then another as he slowly bent down on one knee and then another. His lip reddened under the force of his bite as he followed Eros's command and slowly crawled over.
"I hate you." He whispered with a shaky breath as he kneeled between Eros's legs. He bent over and placed his hands at either side of his beloved's soft face.
Tarak lost his will to fight the moment their lips met. Eros pulled back after a beat. "If they find out your blood allows me to walk in the sunlight, they'll kill us both."
"I know." Eros said softly against his mates lips. "But I need you to send a message to her, can you do that for me? Please, my beloved."
Tarak's eyes closed as he struggled with himself before giving in with a simple, "Yes, Eros."
"I want you to say my true name." Eros commanded as he offered his right arm to him. "I want to hear it from you, and you alone."
Tarak's eyes darkened as his fangs rapidly elongated. "Elijah." He hissed as his sharp fangs penetrated the skin of his mate.
