Mia
A secret's worth depends on the people from whom it must be kept.
The cast-iron handle bars creaked under the force of my strength. Shivers ran through my skin as the wind blew towards me. I felt the warmth from Madness seep within me.
The Saga Moon pack grounds look the same as it did six months ago, when I first arrived here. Nothing more than a large house that overlooks the seemingly endless maze of the garden that flows into the vast expanse of the forest beyond it.
If I were looking at this place from the other side, I'll be able to see the pack clinic next to the newly made training grounds which are surrounded by several sheds.
A thought pings at the back of my mind and makes me wonder how much I could actually see. If only Darkness weren't keeping me blind.
Who would've thought? Me. A shaman.
Even though, I still don't have much of a clue as to what that is.
Unlike Merida, who had the support of the pack and the knowledge from Peter about her magic, I was completely alone.
It took less than a month to realize that no one, not even my own mother, in the pack knew about shaman magic nor how to use it. After some time, I gave up, finding it easier to hide the truth if I stopped asking.
A sigh escaped me as I glanced down at my hands. My father, Desmond, told me not to reveal anything to anyone. But it's just so damn frustrating when he didn't even leave me his contact information. All I had to go on was the eventual possibility that I'll see him again.
In a time that is neither near nor far...you will need to decide which to take.
His, rather Ṣangó's, words echo in my head. I can only assume that he meant sometime soon. Which could be in a month or even in year.
When your sister comes for you...
A sister who I'd only spoken to a few times in the last eight years, but I'd lost contact shortly after Madness came around.
Hearing my thoughts, my wolf stirred inside me, possibly eager for a run. It had been a while since I last took her out. Looking over at the vastness of the open forest, partially illuminated by the half moon, I contemplate taking a nightly run.
Suddenly, a warm tingling sensation sweeps across my skin as a form presses against me from behind. Madness calms instantly as two pale arms wrap around us. My wolf pushes us back to meet our mate as Merida's head comes to our neck from behind. Her soft lips linger at the spot between my shoulder and neck.
Six months ago, I would've pushed her clingy ass off me without hesitation. But now, after learning that ironically mates are naturally clingy, I got used to it. Madness likes the act and Melody likes doing it. Thus, Merida and I have no other choice than to comply to the wills of our wolves.
And besides, its not like it'll be easy pushing her off now. After training to control her magic, Merida had gotten significantly stronger as well as two inches taller, to my annoyance.
Madness tilts my head, giving Merida more space as her warmth envelopes me.
"You seem tense." She breathes. My skin erupts as her lips move against me but I force myself to still.
"I was just thinking."
"About?"
I contemplate telling her but move to a different topic instead. "About when Ma and Peter are coming back?"
She sighs against me, holding me tighter. It's been two weeks since the day Peter took Ma and abruptly left, telling no one where they were going. Merida called me to the office that day, telling me that Peter had put her in charge until they came back.
Even though Merida was more than prepared enough to take that role, I could sense the growing anxiety she had. So like the good mate slash sister that I am, I decided to help her out.
Which leads us to today, Merida and I running a pack which gained several new wolves over the course of two weeks. Thank the Gods that the Beta and Gamma were still here or else we would've never been able to keep them from killing each other.
"They'll be back soon." Merida responded.
"You said that last week." I sighed.
"Don't worry, Mia. They're probably just on a getaway--"
The sharp crashing sound of something breaking causes Merida to move from me as she turns around. Madness stirs inside me, upset at the loss of her warmth. Soon after, we hear the shouts of two of our newbie wolves arguing.
It takes me less than a second to recognize the specific and horridly annoying voices of Caleb and Victor. Oh great fuck, those two again. They've been down each others throats since the moment they got here.
"This is the third time this week." Merida growled as her ocean eyes slowly began to freeze over.
"Do you have any idea what it is between those two?" I ask as Madness creeps forward, aggravated by the interruption.
"I wish I could say this is just two dominant wolves having a damn pissing contest." She replied. "It seems those two were caught up in something nasty, like vampire nasty, and one wrong move nearly got them killed if it weren't for the wolf that turned them. If only we could find the bastard.."
More shouts and crashing ring out from downstairs. I follow Merida into the room as she heads off towards the door to deal with those two for the third time. However, a sudden thought in me stops her.
"Merida, why don't you let me take this one?" Madness perks up at my question.
"Mia, you don't have to-"
"It's okay, I agreed to help you out with this." Merida beamed at my words as I passed her to open the door.
"You started this!" Victor shouted. "You shouldn't have fought them."
"Oh like you're any better." Caleb retorted. "If you haven't provoked literal vampires I wouldn't have needed to."
Coming out on the other side, it was just as I'd expected from listening to them bicker before. One or the other started something and now they have to fight about it. Luckily for me, I notice that the two of them are arguing right beneath me as I glance over the banister to the hallway below.
With a wicked grin on my face and Madness at the surface, I step on the glossy oak banister. Ready to get your revenge? I tell Madness and she responds by throwing us off the second floor banister to the first floor below.
The idiots fall to their asses on either side of me as I crash in between their skirmish. Red eyes glance from one to the other as they suddenly lose their voices.
"Listen, you two," Madness growled, "regardless of what happened, you're both pack mates and you need to start acting like it. This is the third time this week you've been at each others throats and I'm sick of it."
I look over from Caleb and to Victor before glancing at Merida watching us from the stairs. "Since you both want to be together so bad, you can both start by cleaning the kitchen. Every night for a week."
"What!" Victor exclaimed at Madness's annoyance. "There's no way I'm doing that."
"Oh really," Merida said calmly. I unnaturally flinched as the air in the hallway suddenly shifted. "Well, if you don't like her punishment, I'll be more than happy to give you mine. If you don't care about sitting outside for a few days that is."
Caleb and Victor shrank back as Merida finished, but it wasn't at the threat of her punishment. Melody lingered at the forefront causing a strange white aura to flow out from Merida. The pressure of her magic released a suffocating potency in the air.
Madness pushed to the front as I coughed to catch Merida's attention. Ice met blood as the pressure released. "Made a decision yet?" I ask them.
Nodding, they scrambled to get up as they both headed for the kitchen to get an early start. I sighed inwardly, hoping Madness would beam at the victory of her revenge but all she could feel was worry for her mate and anxiety towards something else.
Glancing back to Merida, I noticed her tense expression as she looked down. Her eyes melted back into their original color. "Merida, you okay?" I ask as Madness pushed back, returning control to me.202Please respect copyright.PENANATLU1K0YR2s
She shook her head once and then twice but before she could answer her glare moved sharply to the pack house front door. 202Please respect copyright.PENANA00K2LI0cO0
Before I could follow it, the large double doors burst open with the force of an unregistered presence. 202Please respect copyright.PENANAXB8HZOhhPf
"MIA!" A woman screamed with bold voice. "Where the hell are you?"202Please respect copyright.PENANABm8EyE27FV
I froze as the sound of her voice registered to me. Moving my gaze from Merida to the front door, they landed upon a familiar face. 202Please respect copyright.PENANAoBsV0ulev0
When your sister comes for you....
The door swung closed again as Kristen came up behind me. Her wolf was at the forefront as she stood beside me gazing intensely upon the stranger. Kristen's eyes were full of tension and passion as she stood bouncing from one foot to the other.
"Finally." Kristen breathed.
My eyes locked upon the woman who called out to me. A voice that I had only spoken to a few times in the last decade. Our bodies looked nearly identical expect that she's taller than me and her hair is straightened in a short bob, parted on the side. She looks rough yet oddly put together in a black sleek trench coat and dark jeans.
"Mia." She called as our brown eyes locked.
Go with her, and do not look back.
"Alex-"
Our shocking reunion was upended when the doors behind my sister Alexandria shattered with a blasting force, sending her crashing unto the floor.
Kristen ran swiftly, pulling me out of my stupor as she ran to Alex's side. It took less than a breath to get to her before thin pale fingers suddenly wrapped around my neck and hoisted me off the ground.
"Hello, little pup." The crooked man-like creature hissed.
Madness came to surface painting my eyes blood red once more as we glared at a raven haired man with dead eyes. Behind him were a cold, powerful, and deadly alluring group of strangers.
Vampires.
