Merida
Unity to be real must stand the severest strain without breaking.
"I did." I responded to Alpha Carlos. Despite the small twitch of agitation at his blatant disrespect, I did well to hide my anger overall. We need him right now, nothing good will come from fighting him, despite how much Melody is clawing at the surface.
There are many reasons why Carlos hates me. So much so, that I could fill out a notebook with them. I do my best to stand in front of Mia, the last thing she needs is more stress after today. Carlos regards me for a moment before turning his attention towards Mia. Her sister's suffering in the other room and this asshole has the audacity to take his jolly fucking time. Just to spite me. Go figures.
"Mia, I presume." He says as his eyes linger on her more intensely than ever. Like she's some new object he's fascinated by.
"Yea." Mia nods. "My sister, Alex," she rattles soon after. "She was attacked."
"Yes, I've heard. By a vampire. This is likely to affect her transition."
A vampire? What the hell? Have they been tracking her?
"I don't understand." Mia questions.
Carlos sighs. "It seems Peter is slacking in his teaching." Hold it in, hold it in. "In simple terms, she's in the midst of two transitions. Vampire and werewolf."
My arm moved to grab Mia before I even realized it. Her face paled immensely.
"I can help guide her through." The robed woman spoke. "But I need to see where she's at."
Mia went mute so I spoke up. "Kristen's in there with her." Then realizing. "They're close friends. She'll be on edge."
Mia looked at me for a moment, but I gave her a look of "Please trust me, I'll explain later."
The sorceress nodded, "Very well."
I lead Mia to the couch, as Carlos and the others went into the room. I linked Kristen, despite her already overhearing the conversation. Stand back, let them save her.
I could feel her hesitation and then her obedience.
"I should be in there." Mia said as she stuck close by me. "I should do something."
No. "No, you need to be out here. Trust them. He'll pull her through. The sorceress will make it painless."
"But I - "
"Mia," Please, I really don't want to argue again. "Think about Madness."
It was all I needed to say for her to agree with me. Mia was silent for a long time, as Alexandria's screams died out. She was breathing, but her body was still fighting. The woman muttered soft enchantments that bought about a eerie peace to the apartment. Carlos was likely standing over her, his hand on the center of her body, using his ability as an Alpha to lure out the wolf within, it made sense, one of his own turned her, so Carlos would be considered her Alpha. It was something I've seen my Father do many times.
I searched my mind for something, anything that would distract Mia and landed on one thing. "Mia, I want you to tell me, what have you been doing here?"
"I'll tell you." She said after a long time, "but only if you promise not to press further." Nodding, I complied.
With a breath, she began. "It started when my father came onto the packgrounds."
What?!
"And he told me, to come here."
Okay, now I have questions. But remembering my promise that was just made, I hold back from bombarding her. Listen and wait.
"I have magic, Merida. I still don't understand most of it. But I know,"
I shot off the couch and begun pacing the room. My internal fears that I've been holding back began to rise. Desmond, the house, the Blue Moon Coven. Father still hasn't told me everything. But then I remember my conversation with Dr. Scott.
"Merida." Mia questions.
I shake my head. "It - It's nothing. No. It's not. But I" I need to calm down. Impulsively, I go over to her and kneel at her feet, my body between her legs. Holding her hands in the palms of mine. I breath, willing my magic to emphasize the truth behind my vow. "Mia, I don't care about what others think. I don't care what truth the future brings, you are the kingdom I will protect, the earth I live for, my soul bleeds for you and you alone. I will protect you.Mia, I," Mia looks at me with tears behind her eyes. "I will kill anyone if needs be." Even my own Father if I have to.
She shakes her head. "You shouldn't make a promise like that."
"I won't take it back." I couldn't. It's a vow of marriage, of mates.
"You should." She stands and begins pacing the room slightly. "I've been training to get stronger, to protect myself." Mia releases a shaky breath as I watch her. "My father told me many things when I last saw him months ago. He warned me of this. Of the attacks."
"Your father knew?"
"My father knows many things, as will I. It's the basis of our magic."
Witch magic or something else? "I have to know Mia, in order to protect you I have to know."
She shook her head, stubborn. "I'm not sure you'll want to protect if you knew."
My patience was thin, my promise slipping. I walked up to her and held her face gently. "Mia, my love. No matter what you are, I will protect you regardless."
"I'm a Shaman of Sango. My father and I are the last ones. Everyone else was wiped out by the Blue Moon Coven." As the last words, barely a whisper left her, I held her close immediately, as tightly as I could as the information slowly processed. They aren't apart of it, they were survivors of the coven's cruelty, just as Peter and I are. Which leads to the next thing. Vampires. It would make sense, a witch from the coven targeted Mia for four years.
"They might be behind it. The vampire attacks." I whispered.
Mia pulled back, "No they aren't."
"It would make sense."
"No, I know because I saw him. My father wouldn't have came into the pack to warn me, if it weren't for him."
Him?
"Was it the same person? The attack on the pack? Alexandria?"
Mia nodded.
"You know who it is?"
She bit her lip. "Merida, it's -"
"She's awake." A young wolf interrupted us, breaking the two of us apart once more. "Alpha Carlos pulled her through, she's a wolf."
Mia tore from me, forgetting the conversation that I mentally put on hold. I followed her closely into what I assumed was Alexandria's room. It was minimal with shades of gray and white decorating the space.
Alexandria sat up on the bed, as the sorceress finished up what my magic could feel as a healing spell. Kristen stood close to her as Alex slowly broke out of the haze. "Mia." She called prompting my mate to run to her bedside, replacing Carlos who got up to leave the room.
"It was an attack on your territory. " I told him with a low voice as he passed me at the doorway.
My eyes were still forward, carefully watching how Mia and Alex interacted in the same way Kristen is. His wolf crept forward as his eyes bare into me. No Alpha likes to hear about how they failed to contain trespassers in their territory. "We'll deal with it." He growled.
That's not good enough for me. I could feel Melody growl within. "They're both under Alpha Peter's protection," A white lie but who cares. For a typical Alpha, this could be seen as a stain on their reputation, one big enough to led to their own replacement. This is payback to Carlos and revenge towards the vampire. Two birds, one pissed off Alpha. "My father will be upset, angry even, if this isn't dealt with, immediately."
Carlos fought his wolf slightly, "What are you getting at?"
I turn to meet his eyes, wolf to wolf. Alpha to Alpha. "I want the honor of killing him myself."
We held, only breaking away at the same time the moment Carlos understood. To him, it'll be seen as family getting revenge for family. To me, simply put, Melody wants the hunt. On behalf of our mate.
Carlos' eyes glazed over. "I have my people on it, one of the noble clans will talk. We'll know who it is the minute dawn breaks."
"The day." Said a small voice that took our attention from each other to Alexandria.
"What do you mean?" Mia asked as she held Alexandria's hand. Their wolves got along better than I assumed.
"I was attacked by a vampire during the day." She coughed for a moment as the sorceress stepped back after ending her spell. "It wasn't affected by light."
A vampire that can walk during the day. It was completely unheard of.
"A daywalker." The sorceress stated quietly, in shock as we all were. "It's a power that's rare. The last vampire to be seen with it was over a thousand years ago."
"Did you see his face?" Carlos asked.
Alexandria shook her head. "He was fast. I was knocked out against the wall before I could see anything properly, but I did catch one thing. He had raven black hair."62Please respect copyright.PENANAfHIB5yJgrB
