One of the most successful writers (as well as a successful Sci fi writer) of all time was Isaac Asimov. He had a high IQ and got a PhD in chemistry, but really wanted to write more than do research. One of his writing techniques was to talk about himself when he started an essay. A typical essay called, The Relativity of Wrong, begins,
I RECEIVED a letter the other day. It was handwritten in crabbed penmanship so that it was very difficult to read. Nevertheless, I tried to make it out just in case it might prove to be important. This technique of self-revelation, started almost by accident, and became his calling card. He would begin a small story about himself or his life and then do his essay, usually on science. I write as much as I can, balancing fiction with nonfiction. In the future, I will try to write more about myself.
