Where did the idea for Beyond Mu Arae come from?
The basic idea revolves around a true WWII story: that of the ill-fated Convoy PD 17 and how one decision resulted in its almost obliteration.
The story concept is the same. What if this happens again 1,000 years in the future?
Yes - technology will have advanced. Yes - knowledge will have advanced.
But throughout the history of mankind there seems to be no limit to human folly. That remains at a constant. Human nature does not change. Or as someone once said, human nature does not progress, only the narrative does.
I really enjoyed reading the story of Convoy PD 17. Not due to the gratuitous and wholesale destruction of war, but because of the many stories of survival and perseverance.
That's my goal for Beyond Mu Arae, to tell a great story.
