1966
Cheri Jo Bates was the first victim of the Zodiac Killer.
She was born in February 4, 1948.
For a long time, there was nothing strange about her upbringing. She had a strong family history; she also was driving a Volkswagen Beetle. On October 30, 1966, (one day before Halloween), her body was found. She was 18 years' old. Graysmith and Paul Avery were working hard on the so-called "Cold Cases", from the mid-1960's, before the deaths of David Faraday, and Betty Lou Jensen in 1968.
Graysmith wanted to get results.
Then, through a lot of luck, he knew about the movie 'The Most Dangerous Game', the short story horror thriller by writer Richard Connell, (17 October, 1893-22 November, 1949), which was published in 1924. The story about a man on an Island who hunts his guests influenced the Zodiac Killer's crime spree.
In the end, Robert Graysmith had clues as to the killer's indentity.
On the top of the list was one name: Arthur Leigh Allen.
