As Boromir looked at the map before him, he tried to control his rage. So close… so close… yet his soldiers had been so idiotic to let those children go. Of course, he’d had his faults too. He’d thought that if he’d brought the children together, Achilles would be proud.
But no. Of course bringing them together was what started the prophecy. How was Boromir supposed to know that?
He looked at the map again. It showed every country in Iddenu. Achilles had assigned Boromir the task of figuring out where they would go.
Since Boromir and his soldiers had been camped out at the edge of the border between Hilgaria and Bellona. The children could flee to the east, towards Thuron, but it was unlikely. The chosen ones were likely disoriented and would follow the nearest trail.
It would send them in a direction Boromir thought would be bad for the soldiers, but the children might find help. It would send them further southwest. Towards Bellona.
And Boromir had an idea who one of them might enlist in help.
But he needed to know for sure.
He exited the war tent and ordered the nearest soldier. “Bring...her.”
They needed as much help as they could get.
Plus, the brunette with the yellow eyes… she bore the mark. That would mean more possible allies for the children.
More possible massacres and land for the Dueglesteiners.
Yes, he needed to know if the girl would go to her kind. Her people.
If so, that could cause controversy in her land. And that would weaken the government they had.
Easier for them to slither in and take over.
Her kind would be a formidable force, but Boromir would plan the attack.
Everything was falling into place, just not how they’d planned it to be.
As the soldier ran off to get her, Boromir thought of how to punish the soldiers that had not been paying attention. It couldn’t just be torture. This was an important mission. So important they could not take any chances.
Boromir went up to another soldier. “Prepare an execution of 6. Have it ready by noon.”
As a general, he had to send fear. Fear is what gives you control over even the biggest army or the most insubordinate crowd.
...
When noon did come around, Boromir sat in his tent, thinking of what to do.
Then the soldier he’d sent to get her came back. She was here. The moment she came into the room Boromir felt a shiver at herpresence.
Boromir smiled as he heard the screams of the soldiers who had failed.
He was going to do this. And he’d do this right…
