It seemed like yesterday that me and Aiden walked up to my front door after the first day of first grade. I’d just moved to Washington which meant a new school. When I’d got there, I couldn’t get myself to stop crying. I desperately wanted to, but every time I looked around, it started up again. My parents had left, I was all alone, the teacher had given up helping me, and I couldn’t wait to get home. That’s when a young boy with dark skin and even darker hair came up to me. He offered he his box of crayons and told me to pick my favorite color. We spent the rest of class drawing and learning and becoming closer and closer.
Then it was middle school and we stood side by side the whole time. We kept our heads up high and our dreams higher. Aiden and I wanted to become artists. We would go to each other’s houses and draw for hours upon hours.
Then it was High-school. Aiden and I fell in love. We dated and did art and went to prom together. It was bliss. Always having a best friend to turn to, to sit with, to hang with.
Then college came. Aiden got excepted into the art school he applied for in France. He left. And so did my art buddy, my boyfriend, my lifelong friend.
-Preset day-
I held the yellow blunt crayon in my wet hand as tears fell down my face. Of course it was raining, it was Olympia. I stood at the door of my childhood home, coming back from a failed attempt at an art business. It had been a year since Aiden left, and now I had to come crawling back to my parents with what little dignity I had left.
I knocked on the grey door, and my mom opened it warily.
”M-Mom,” I choked, the tears rolling faster now. I caught them up on everything that had happened and they told me I could stay as long as I needed.
I spent a few months in my old room, trying to clean it of all memories of Aiden. I love him. That’s all there is. But he’s living out his dreams. And I’m not a part of them…
One day, a cloudy and drizzly day, there was a knock on the door.
“Emma, there’s someone here for you!”
I straightened my braids and opened the door.
Aiden. Aiden was there. At the same door we walked to every day during school. The same door he came up to so he could ask me to prom. At the same door we accidentally left open and a raccoon got in.
I immediately hugged him as hard as possible, and he returned it eagerly.
“Emma, I talked to the people at my school. I showed them your art, they want you to come and enroll.”
”B-But I applied and I didn’t hear from them and-“
”They never got one from you. It must’ve gone wrong or something but the important thing is is that you can be with me. I’ve missed you. Every day, every week, every month. Please come with me?”
He leaned in and I closed the gap. This kiss was well over due. We took our time, letting the misty rain soak our cloths and hair. He picked me up, deepening the kiss. We broke apart beaming.
”yes. Let’s go to France!”
