I opened the door to my shared apartment and announced my arrival to the empty kitchen. My roommate Dionne called back to me, probably from her room.
I went down the hall to her room to find the door shut. Then I heard a noise.
You should probably know, Dionne is magic. I don’t know much, just that she came from another world to study and learn about humans then decided to stay for a while. She hasn’t caused too much trouble, but the barking I heard through her door begged to differ.
”Dee, what in grandmas name is in there?” I pounded on her door. We weren’t allowed to have pets in this building.
”O-oh, uhh, gimme a sec.” More barking and a thud. She rushed through the door and closed it quickly.
”Dee, please explain.” I said glaring.
”Emma listen, don’t get mad, butimayhavecastaspelltomakeadogbutendedupwithlotsandnowidontknowwhattodo.”
She had a problem with talking fast. I picked up on the dog part though. “What? A dog? You know we aren’t allowed…” I trailed off as I forced the door open and a wave of puppies flooded the hallway.
“DEE!”
“They keep multiplying…” she muttered, shoveling them back into her room.
“Well fix it!” I shouted.
”Easier said than done Em. I’m not good at reversing spells, but I can make a new one.”
I let out a frustrated growl but agreed.
She closed her eyes, told me to back up, then all of a sudden the puppies started, falling?
”Wha-“ I looked at the situation with visible confusion.
”I opened a portal to another dimension. Cool right?”
I laughed. “So some world is just gonna have puppies raining from the sky?” I looked at the portal, it had a blue magic rim with a birds eye view of another world below.
”Yes, although not all worlds are inhabited by intelligent beings, it is likely that some town just got the weirdest weather they’ve ever had.”
I tossed a husky into the hole in my floor. “Are they gonna get hurt?” I asked, now feeling guilty of that dog I just chucked down there.
”No, I made sure of it.”
”Oh good.” I sighed as I threw a golden retriever down.
Life was never boring with a magic roommate.
