"Alright! Please stop!" you yell out in pain while being tortured. You are about to tell the man where the sword is when you suddenly wake up gasping for air. You look around your cell. You can hear the other prisoners groaning and suffering in the darkness. There is very little light. The trauma of seeing your mother killed in front of you must have triggered nightmares of you and her being tortured together. For you that reality could have been better than to have seen her killed in front of your very eyes.
Your eyes begin to tear up as you wonder how long you have until King Kaizar decides when it is ideal for you to die. The tears from your eyes stopped as you heard the foot steps of a prison guard.
“It’s time.” You said that to yourself thinking that this was it, this was the moment you will be killed. In the shadows of the dark prison, he opens your cell door, grabs your arm and brings you straight to the king. As he drops you in front of the king’s throne, a mysterious figure comes out from the darkness to your right. To your surprise it was Rose. She looked at you for only a split second then turned to face the king.
“You disappoint me, Cornelius.” You laid there on your knees as Rose spoke freely to the king. Her words were sharp, and she had no fear. She spoke to the king as if they were some how related. “When your brother, my HUSBAND Arcavis died, you promised me, you swore to me, that your eternal protection will be upon me. Yet, you insult me.”
The kings’ hands tremble as he holds his words back trying not to interrupt Rose. His guards are shocked, as they see King Kaizar with fear in his eyes, something they've never seen before.
“Arthur here, he has trained under me. So that eternal protection, must be stretched out upon him. He is legally now my son, my own flesh and blood. So, if you touch him again, you will be invoking…. my wrath!
“Let him go! Untie him this instant you incompetent swine!” The king demanded that the guard that stood next to you untie you. The kings guard take the ropes off of you immediately. “Rose, you know me. This is not my doing. My men must have attacked and imprisoned the wrong person.” As the king stated his case, Rose listened with the coldest stare in all the kingdom.
“By touching Arthur, you have brought shame to my very name as master swordsman, and you have insulted the spilled blood of your own brother Arcavis. If HE was king, he would have never let this happen!”
“I assure you my dear sweet Queen Rose, this will never, ever, happen… again, I am deeply distraught.”
“Queen!” Your eyes widen as you take everything in. “How?” You had no idea Rose was royalty, and that she was connected to evil King Kaizar.
“To make amends for what I have done, Sir Arthur may stay here in my castle and become a royal knight.”
Rose did not like the idea of leaving you in the hands of King Kaizar. She didn’t trust him. She felt it was all an act.
“Come Arthur, we no longer have to be here. We can go!” Rose dismisses herself. No one that is in the presence of the king is ever allowed to dismiss themselves. Rose shows you that she had more power and authority than the king himself. But the king is surrounded by corrupt and powerful people. So the time to act was not now.
Rose gave you a look as she turned around and exited the kings’ throne room.
