You get on the caravan with Geoffrey. You figure that it was better this time to take Rose’s advice. Now knowing that she is Queen, puts things in a whole new perspective for you. After hours sitting in the caravan, you awaken. It was night when you arrive and in the distance was a fiery light.
Geoffrey was cautious and decided to head towards the fiery lights on foot with you and hide the caravan.
As you and Geoffrey approach a small cottage, Geoffrey falls to his knees. “Nooo! This cannot be!” In confusion you try to speak but wonder why he was so devastated.
Geoffrey quickly got up from the ground and withdrew his sword in fury. “Those uncivilized fiends! Arthur, it seems that the enemy, King Kaizar’s evil knights have arrived a day ahead of us. Our Queens brother Myrrdin is…. dead. He was our last hope, to put an end to this war, to put an end to Kaizar’s reign of terror".
Geoffrey looked around with is sword drawn just in case, however, the knights were gone. All that remained was the burning cottage.
Geoffrey quicky looked to his right and out of the fiery smoke that came from the burning cottage stepped forward a mysterious figure.
“Do not be discouraged…. my master. Not all is lost. Hope remains.” The mysterious girl stepped forward into the light. You took one look at her and right away your heart was struck by her beauty and then at that moment you noticed she was carrying a sword.
“Ah, it is you, Afina.” Geoffrey was relieved to see his young apprentice.
“Arthur, Afina has finally revealed herself. The knights are gone for now, but we must move quickly from this place.”
You didn’t want to take another step anywhere until it was made clear what was going on.
“You’re a very stubborn boy, just like your master Queen Rose. I cannot believe she gave you the ultimate gift, training you in her art of swordsmanship. That gift should have been MINE.”
“Just who are you? And why was Merlin so important?” You demanded answers.
“I do not know what Rose sees in you boy. But if you must know, Myrrdin, was supposed to commence the uprising, and thus finish the war against King Kaizar. He would recover the throne and evil would finally be extinguished. But it seems that the knights finally found the location where Myrrdin was hiding.” Afina’s voice becomes weak as she finishes her sentence. It seems that King Kaizars evil has affected the lives of many people and this war has been raging for years. After a while she begins to smile once again. “I want to see this war come to an end. But not all hope is lost like I said before. Rose has trained you. And on top of that, she is also alright.”
“WHAT?” Your eyes begin to sparkle with hope. “What do you know about Rose?” You step forward as your hands shake wildly.
“She has escaped from her imprisonment at Kaizar’s palace. I should know. I am her bodyguard after all.”
“Wait… why would Rose need a bodyguard!? You’re lying!”
“I tell the truth boy. Of course, Queen Rose herself does not need a bodyguard. I am her right-hand man… I mean woman. I’m her eyes and ears. You really think that a Queen can live on a farm by herself and stay quiet as war rages on back in her land?”
Everything starts to make sense now to you. “I keep her informed of everything that is happening in her kingdom. Queen Rose is wise and always a step ahead. I also saw from a distance how you became stronger as she trained you. She trusts me and I trust her. I am an extension of her power, a tool to be used to extinguish all her foes. However, Master Geoffrey here was the one who trained me under Queen Rose’ request.”
“So you are like a secret spy, a bodyguard, and an assistant to the Queen?”
“Yes Arthur, I am. Everywhere the Queen goes, I go. There are secret gestures that she signals to me and tells me what to do from a distance. She sent me away to check up on you and to make sure you go and train with Geoffrey. So, there is no need to worry about Queen Rose, she is now in hiding in her secret location, not even I know where that is.” Afina extends her hand towards you. “Although the death of her brother is sad, I cannot let Queen Rose’ request be ignored. She asked me, along with Master Geoffrey to train you and to make sure that you come with us. Now Arthur…. will you come and train with us?”
The thing that you wanted the most in that moment was to see Rose and to continue training under her. Your stubbornness was getting the best of you. And although it was Rose herself that wanted you to go and train with Geoffrey and Afina, you wanted to see her face once again. Rose was now like your own mother. She was willing to give her husband’s sword to you. You also needed to know why she didn’t act sooner and take her kingdom, her land, back from evil King Kaizar.
