The moon is a thief.

It took away the protection I had from meeting your gaze. As the darkness lifted, the moon highlighted your very best features.
The water was still. The crickets chirped as you looked into my eyes like it was nothing. Like we had all the time the time in the world.
"Why cant you stay?" I asked, knowing the answer.
It was cold outside, but you made me feel warm. I was the darkness and you were the light. And your light pulled me out of the darkness. The jacket that you let me borrow smelled like you.
"I would if I could. You are my world, Lila. I'll never forget you. I'm always going to come back."
I wanted the moon to leave. I wanted the clouds to come back as I started to feel a lump in my throat. I wanted you here forever. I wanted this moment to last forever.
You saw the state of me. You pulled me in closer to you and I closed my eyes. I knew we wouldn't be able to meet for a long time. My tears dripped on your Levi jeans.
"I love you," I breathed.
"I love you too," you whispered. I still haven't gotten used to you saying that. It's been a year, and every time you say that it feels like the first time. I get those butterflies.
"Look, Lila. Look up," you said. Once I looked up, you wiped the tears from my cheeks. You looked amazing, even with your eyes filled with water. "Isn't the moon pretty? Almost as pretty as you."
I smiled underneath my tears. It was a full moon that night. I turned and watched the moon with you.
"Yeah," I smiled, "It is pretty."
