As a child I heard many people say, it is important to have a dream. My response to it was, what is a dream?
Even today as a grown-up I still stop to wonder what is exactly a dream. An illusion of the brain, a dearest wish one can imagine or is it something else? The results have always left me in the same situation; confused, lost in circles and annoyed.
Maybe why I don't know the answer yet it is probably because I never asked since the accident. The accident that brought me here. The dark world below one's feet in a city, below the streets.
Suddenly there was a loud thundering sound not far that made me wince of fear for a brief moment. I looked down the tunnel from where the thundering came. It is an unusual sound that I never heard of. Slowly I crawled down that small tunnel to find out because the curiousity got the better in me after a long moment staring in silence and my heart throbbing at the ears. For a long time I crawled silently down the tunnel on my knees and hands. Few rats ran past me the other direction. A warning; something's here that shouldn't be but what?
Soon I halted, held my breath and stared at my discovery with widened eyes. How is it possible? Why is a person from above down here? Why are its eyes closed? I-i think it's a girl. Quickly I shook my head to be sure she was really there and blinked.
Quickly my dear friend Arthur climbed up my arm to my ear and whispered that the girl fell from running. I looked at Arthur. "How do you know?"
Arthur explained to me everything what he knew. Some of it made sense other things will have to wait until the girl is awake. He suggested to take the girl to a dry and warm place. I did not like one bit. Not knowing who she is and what she will do. Arthur convinced me that I can ask her many questions and get answers in return. Well there is surely one I am eager to ask.
Gently as I could I brought her to my place and placed her on my dry moss bed. Arthur surried around with curiousity and excitement.
After a while the girl began groan silently with knitted eyebrows and soon her eyes popped open; looking directly into my eyes. A shiver went down my spine. Quickly I made some space from her as she sat up. Soon her eyes wandered around my place. As her eyes met with Arthur she gave an ear-stinging shriek and slipped off from my moss bed. I was fast enough to hold her up from the dirty water by grabbing her hand.
She breathed heavily. Why does she breathe so? "Why are you afraid of Arthur when he found you?"
"What?" She blinked. "That's a rat! Rats are dirty animals and they bite!"
"Arthur? He's my friend. He's very clean and friendly. He found me and showed me everything here. Without him I would still be learning how the tunnels work."
"What are you doing here?" She looked at me. Her honey-brown eyes wandered around me.
"I was about to ask that myself, what are you doing here?"
"I asked first." Her hands balled to fists.
"Ok." I shrugged my shoulders. She's nerving. "I live here. What are you doing here?"
She stared at me with widened eyes. I heard a silent chuckle coming from Arthur. "You. Live. Here?" I nodded. "Erm. Well, I was hoping you would know why I'm here."
"Then tell me what you did before you landed here." I pointed out.
She placed a hand to her head and quickly turned away from me. Once turned she faced me. What an odd move, why would she do that? My head tilted to one side. "I was running, trying to catch a bus to head home. While running my foot must landed on a thin layer from the pavement and so fell down here."
"Why running after a bus?" Asked Arthur.
The girl looked at Arthur with a grimace of disgust and confusion. "Did-did the rat just say something?"
I laughed. "Yes, Arthur wonders why you ran after a bus?"
Due to my laughter her face somehow flushed to a red colour and her hands were clenched to fists. "Well obviously I was late! I wanted to go on that bus that I now missed. Heading home and speaking of heading home, I should continue on my way. Where is the exit?"
"Exit?" I tilted my head to side while looking at her.
"I mean a way out." She spoke slowly while realizing that I did not know what she meant at first.790Please respect copyright.PENANAtl9KMgxumB
Quickly I held her wrist. To assure she won't walk away before I can ask her my burning question that I long to find an answer. She glared at me as if I was mad while trying shake off my grip. "Before you leave I must ask you one question. What is a dream?"790Please respect copyright.PENANAn0ZtF4CP5P
"A dream?" She whispered, froze and blinked at me surprised.790Please respect copyright.PENANA3Cgxt5dFNK
"Not that dream that can be found whilst sleeping." Noted Arthur as he was at my left shoulder.790Please respect copyright.PENANAp34BSVQN59
The girl looked confused at Arthur, I had to giggle. Arthur did not like one bit and pinched me at the ear, quickly I explained what Arthur said. She nodded and bit her lip. "What is a dream?" I repeated.790Please respect copyright.PENANAVwUCqqWCLH
"I think that is a question that has an individual answer. Everyone sees it different." She paused while looking down to her feet. "To me it is a wish that you want fullfilled someday soon."790Please respect copyright.PENANAv00e9VoofK
"Interesting perspective, I always thought dreams are like memories, once created it is made not only to inspire but above all to remember." Arthur thought out loud.790Please respect copyright.PENANAT0NDk03tt7
"What?" The girl stared at Arthur. I explained to her what Arthur said but she interrupted me. "I understood what the rat said. But, what does it mean?"790Please respect copyright.PENANAJzwmRaBCLr
"I always thought that a dream is something created and thus has a creator. If the creator dies the dream lives on. To your perspective the dream dies along the creator."790Please respect copyright.PENANASf9eCEH8Sg
"Maybe it can have more than creator?" I suggested openly.790Please respect copyright.PENANAvQ16Pn6m5e
"Of course! A dream can be shared!" The girl called out.790Please respect copyright.PENANA372yHWFHXQ
"I see. That is the bridge connecting to the two perspectives. A dream can live on as long it is shared and still nourished from others." Wonders Arthur. What a smart friend he always is.790Please respect copyright.PENANA3JcYI4lcVu
