TW: A little language
Ugh, biology. Being a werewolf kinda makes regular human biology seem… well wrong.
Sam came in and sat next to me at a lab station half asleep. The full moon was last night and as usual we didn’t get any rest.
“Mornin Con,” He yawned, his floppy red hair in his face.
“Hey Sam. How’d your sister do on her first night? I didn’t get to talk to her much.”
“Alright. She was a little freaked but she handled it well.”
Here in Hill-grove there are two families of werewolves, me and Sam’s. No one knew about it but us and our families.
Every time there’s a full moon we drive to the forest and spend the night there, running and swimming and generally enjoying ourselves. It’s a good time.
Just before the bell rang, a girl who I didn’t recognize walked in.
“Class, this is Emma Fenrio, a new student here. Go take a seat dear.” Mrs. Lemill announced. The girl, Emma, was quite pretty. Her two French braids hung down her back and a keychain jingled on her backpack on her way to her seat.
But that wasn’t what was strange.
It was the silvery sheen that hovered around her, like all werewolves had, called Lumino. The only people who could see it here were me and Sam.
The most confusing part is that there’s not another werewolf family anywhere near us… not even close. The closest one I knew of was in Venezuela. She was not Venezuelan.
”Sam.” I whisper shouted. “Look, girl up front.”
His eyes widened. ”Holy shit,” he said way too loud.
“Sam and Connor, do you have something you want to announce to the class?” Mrs. Lemill asked us.
”Nope, all good here.” I laughed nervously.
Was this girl a threat? She didn’t look like one. Not really. Now because I saw her Lumino, she definitely saw mine. And goodness did she get very, very pale.
I decided to go and talk to her, just to clear the air.
As I was walking closer, her Lumino got brighter and more gold than silver. I stopped dead in my tracks. The only reason that would happen is if… she was my mate?!
I shook myself back to reality and went up to her.
“Hey! I’m Connor, nice to meet you.” I stuck out my hand, she took it gingerly.
“uh huh, likewise.” She swallowed.
Lowering my voice I said, “Listen, Emma, was it?” She nodded. “You can see it, the silver stuff around me right?”
She hesitated, but gave just the slightest nod. Definitely not a threat. “Yours changed. It got bigger when you came over here.”
Strange. “Ok, well besides the weird Lumino glitch, what family are you from?”
”Lumino? What’s that? And my family is just the Fenrios.”
Her family wasn’t werewolves? That only meant one thing. She wasn’t a werewolf by genetics, she was bitten.
