Humans and monstrous beasts have always coincided. They were always above us, in everything. They could extinct our entire race in only a week. But they spared us.
They spared us because we served them
The price for our lives were eternally serving the mottled beasts.
Evolution made them our kings.
They were humanoid, morphed and mottled and crunched whenever they walked. But one notable thing was they had no vocal chords at all, making them silent.
I listen to the loud singer from a neighboring land, she had skin that was a dark warm color. Her eyes were a light amber, their honey glow flashing as she sang and danced throughout the tavern stage. Her black long glossy hair flipped as she jumped about, the foreign instruments played a giddy tune. The song was not in a language I understood but I loved it nonetheless, watching the dancer with silk in every color, including purple which was almost impossible to get. I cross my legs, humming along tapping my calf high lace up boots. Drunk men cheered and laughed with red faces. They stumbled about like clumsy animals, I scoffed with second hand embarrassment. I enjoy a beer myself occasionally but they way they carelessly stumbled about was stupid. I jump off the high stool I was sitting and walked to the bar with the clacking of my boots.
"And what can i get for you, little lady" He asks.
"Whiskey, something strong" I say bluntly, resting my head in my palm.
"Are you sure? A young woman like yourself might not be able to handle our whiskey." He asked it harmlessly but it annoyed me nonetheless.
"I asked for what I asked for" I say emotionlessly.
I brush off my tunic and look around the dusty bar.
One of the crimson figures stumbled in the door. The fanged, drooling creature looked around the room. It roughly scratched in the wall.
"Choose a sacrifice and might spare you all" it wrote.
"Do not comply with this beast" I boom.
"Juniper stay out of this" a man who knows me as a regular screams. Two stronger looking men grab a young boy and carry him. He screams and pleads but no one listens. Everyone thinks the loss of his life would protect ours. He was brought to the beast and the beast smiled with amusement. He was devoured, screaming and sobbing, reaching out like someone would save him. Everyone was desensitized to these deaths, but the sight was still horrifying. Just fresh blood that splattered the walls and dripped down. It was crazy to think that boy was alive and laughing just a second ago but was now only a red mess. The beasts smiled with its bloody maw of a mouth. We all thought it would leave us but the wretched creature used its claws to impale a woman beside it. That boy was not enough, the beast needed more. It planned to kill us all, it was just toying with us. It tears apart person after person. My hand goes to the handle of my sword. I dash towards the beast, I was saving us all.
Humans all had one thing in common
We served these monsters
Until now, I defied them.
I thrust my sword into the neck of the crimson beast.
The monster went down clawing and trying to roar, the silence making it more horrifying.
They let us live because we didnt defy them
But I have defied them
That was the last night of humankind.
