Chapter 2: Bianca Barclay
Me and Enid climbed several flights of stairs to get to our dorm. Once we reached them, we looked at each other.
“Good luck.” She told me, then she attacked me in a hug.
I smiled and chuckled a little as I wrapped my arms around her. She crept back and looked toward her dorm and sighed.
“It sucks that the social one gets to be alone.” I say as she looks longingly at my dorm room.
“No, it’s okay. You need friends more than I do.” She says sadly.
I hug Enid gently, and when we both step back, we enter our dorms. My dorm mate, Bianca, is already inside. She’s very pretty, with dark skin and a puffer.
“Hi.” I said politely and smiled at the girl. She looked up from her unpacking and smiled at me.
“You must be Ethel.” She said.
“Yep, that’s me.” I said, heading over to the bed on the other side of the dorm.
I look up into the mirror where I notice my scrawny appearance. I have waist length blonde hair with no streaks (unlike Enid who has rainbow all over her) and I’m wearing a black hoodie. I turn back to the girl.
“When did you get here?” I ask as I set my duffel bag down and throw my backpack on the bed.
“Like twenty minutes ago, why?” She asked as she taped a poster of a fencer up on her wall.
“Just curious. You fence?” I asked surprisingly.
“Yes. I love fencing. Been fencing practically my whole life.” She said with a huge smile on her face.
“I fence too.” I say, smiling back.
She smiles even wider and broader. “You do? I’d love to fence together if you want to.”
I nod excitedly. “I would love that!”
I start to unpack my things, a pillow, sheets, some extra clothes.
“No decorations?” She asks.
“No, I’m not really that extra. I brought my fencing trophy though!” I set it on my bedside table as I start to hang up clothes in the closet.
“Trophy?” She examined the trophy and gasped.
“1st place!” She said looking up at me in awe.
“Yeah…” I looked back at her with a black beanie still in my hand.
“How! The highest I’ve gotten is third! What kind of competition was it?” Bianca asked as she went back to hanging up LED lights in her space.
“Nationals.” I said smiling proudly.
“WHAT!!??” She asked, almost falling off the chair she was standing on.
“I got 96th!” She said with a stunned look on her face.
“Just kidding. It was little local friendly competition.” I said turning back to what I was doing.
“I got 67th at nationals.” I said as I hung up a little white dress for special occasions.
“You got me thinking I was standing in front of a celebrity for a second there.” She laughed.
“Yeah, I’m not that good.” I said as I turned away from the closet and went toward my backpack to unpack.
“You seem pretty good, I got the highest out of all my fencing friends, and I was 96th. 67th is actually pretty impressive.” She said approvingly.
“Thanks!” I opened my backpack and took out my phone. I laid it on my bedside table, not even glancing at it.
“Hey, you seem like a decent fencer, want this poster?” Bianca says, showing a poster of a girl with flaming red hair, pointing her foil at her opponent, a scared boy.
The text on the right of the two fencers read, “You might be good, but I am always better.”
“I love it!” I exclaimed, taking the poster from Bianca and hugging it.
“Attention students, we will all be assembling in the courtyard at 9:00 sharp, thank you!” Shortly after the announcement was made, a sharp rap echoed through the dorm.
“Ethel! Hurry up!” Enid yelled through the door.
“Who is that?” Bianca asked, pausing to hang up a poster.
“My twin sister, Enid.” I blushed as I set down the hat I was hanging up.
“You have a twin? Cool.” Bianca said, smiling a little. I went to open the door, and there was Enid.
“Hi. Bianca, I think we should head out.” I yelled back to Bianca.
“Okay.” Bianca came up next to me and examined Enid.
“This is Bianca, my new roommate.” I told Enid as she stepped aside to let us through.
“Nice to meet you!” She said, holding out a hand for Bianca to shake. Bianca shook her hand and smiled shyly back. We headed down the flights of stairs, when Enid was rudely knocked over by a running boy.
