“Hey, Jexion, I thought you could do better than her as your friend. And Kaida, they told us to leave our pets at the gate,” she exclaims disgusted, motioning to Komel. “That does it!” I yell, “No one insults my friends and family,” I say, my claws sliding out as I lunge at her. I have the element of surprise because she obviously wasn’t expecting me. I reach for her face giving her a long scratch on her eye. She gathers herself very quickly and retaliates by headbutting me in the stomach. I double over, pain coursing through my body. Resisting the urge to show everyone my breakfast, I stand up to face her. There was no way I was backing down. Everyone was giving us a large space, so I have plenty of room to maneuver. We circle around each other, our teeth bared. Smoke is pouring out of her nostrils and teeth. My mouth is clear; however, I can feel water gathering at the back of my throat. She lunges, flames pouring out of her mouth, trying to scorch me, but I’m faster. I whip around, open my mouth, and a small jet of water blasts into the air onto her back legs. It freezes as it runs down them and keeps her in place while I circle her. She has a wild look in her eyes as she blasts fire everywhere, and it sometimes warms my scales. More than once, I have to put out some on the grass. Trying to avoid her fire, I stay out of the range of her claws until I see the perfect opportunity. Quickly I jump on her back, sliding down her neck, and place one of my paws on her snout. Pushing it against the ground, so she quickly becomes defenseless. Then I aim a spray of water on her snout, which hardens, shifting into ice. I climb off her, and she struggles to get free. When she finally gets out, she gets back into a fighting stance, and tired as I am, I’m not going to back down from another fight. I get into a fighting stance, panting, blood dripping from the scratches on my back, neck, and stomach, and a growl rising in my throat. I am ready to leap again but instead, a dragon lands in front of me and starts yelling at the dragonet. “Sakura, she won fair and square. Now, go to the nurse’s office. That scratch on your eye looks bad.” he tells her. Sakura bows her head and is led away by her friends. “Well,” A voice exclaims behind me. I whip around, my claws out, ready to scratch whoever it is, but I realize that it’s Jex and, at the last moment, curve down, my claws digging into the earth. “Sorry,” I apologize, not wanting to meet his eyes. “I’m just a bit jumpy and paranoid” “Hey, it’s fine,” he says with a laugh. “I would be too if that just happened to me. By the way, I’m stuck with you now that you announced me to be your friend to the whole school.” he said playfully. “Oh! I’m really sorry. I should have confirmed that we were friends before I said that. Now you’re in the loser group because of me,” I apologize; Looking up at his eyes, I’m surprised to see that he doesn’t look upset. “Hey, it’s fine. One, Sakura is the biggest jerk in the school. I’m glad I don’t have to pretend to like her anymore, and two, if anyone’s in the loser group, it’s her,” he says, his eyes filling with warmth. “Now come on,” he gently tells me, wrapping his tail around mine and leading me through the crowd to the school entrance. “We need to get you to the nurse’s office” “Wait!” I hear Komel yell to me, “I need to talk to Kaida before I have to go,” he says. “Wait here,” I tell Jex before walking to where Komel is standing. “You need to try to get extra defense classes because if this happens again out of class and you injure her and leave a scar, which we both know is possible, her parents could use that to get you expelled. And I don’t want that to happen. So please try to get extra classes, and if you can’t, try your best not to fight in the halls. And Kaida,” he says, “Yeah?” I say, confused. “I love you,” he said, standing on his hind legs and wrapping his wings around me in a feathery hug. “I love you too,” I say with a smile. I turn back towards Jex and wrap my tail around his. “Let’s go get you a doctor,” he says, pulling me along the halls as if he knew them by heart.” Jex?” I say, trying to keep up with him. “Yeah?” “Two questions, what do you mean you don’t have to pretend to like her anymore? And how do you know your way through the school so well it’s like a maze,” I say, my voice filled with amazement. “To answer your first question, this is my second year here and her second year here, so we are the same tier, and to answer your second question, this is my second year here. You get to know your way around.” he tells me, pulling me into a room with orange clay walls, lots of bed-shaped stone slabs, and wooden shelves along one wall filled with all kinds of bottles, leaves, and medical supplies. There are multiple stone slabs with moss on them, and Jex leads me to one of them. “Wait here for the nurse, and I will be right back,” he said before walking to the door and disappearing around the corner. I lay down on the stone bed and tuck my wings against my back. I look down at one of my paws and see it’s bleeding, so I lick it to stop the blood flow until a dragon with a white cape to hold down her wings comes over. “You must be Kaida. I’m Fahra,” she says while treating my wounds. “How do you know my name,” I ask curiously. “Well, I’d have to be deaf not to.” she says with a laugh. “I’m sure the whole school knows about it now. “Who told everyone?” I ask worried everyone would hate me for beating up another student. “He’s behind you,” Fahra says, walking away to get more medicine. I turn around expecting to find a stranger, but my eyes connect with Jex’s emerald ones. “Sorry. I can’t keep a victory like that quiet. Everyone hates Sakura.” he chuckles, his eyes twinkling. “Really,” I ask, surprised. “I thought they would hate me for beating up another dragon on my first day.” “Are you kidding?” he exclaims, leaning closer to me. I feel my cheeks turning pink and am about to break the silence when he boops my nose with his pulling away quickly. “Boop!” he says, laughing as my face turns bright red, and I tuck my chin to try to hide my embarrassment. “You should have seen your face,” he says after a minute. “Well, anyways, I came to tell you that the principal has decided to move you into the second tier because you beat Sakura, and she is the best two-tier fighter, so he thinks you can teach us a thing or two.” Jex says, sitting on the bed next to me, his tail tucked neatly against his legs. “Are you hurt or sick?” Fahra says, looking Jax up and down. Jax shakes his head. “No… I don’t believe so.” Fahra glares at him. “THEN GET OUT OF THIS ROOM! YOU’RE. IN. THE. WAY,” She yells, handing me a bottle while pushing Jex out with her tail. “I’ll find you tomorrow!” he manages to yell before Fahra slams the door with her tail. “Now, where was I? Ah, yes, drink your medicine. It will stop the wounds from infecting, which would have happened because you were fighting in the dirt,” She says, annoyed, “Oh, and you might want to lay down; it will make you sleepy.” I held it with my tail and yanked it open with my teeth. Staring at the murky grey substance inside, I asked Fahra, “What is in this?” “Drink it quick,” is her only reply. I decided to take her suggestion and chugged the bottle. The mixture is one of the worst things I have ever tasted. I choke it down, and sleep calls to me, leading me into darkness.96Please respect copyright.PENANAXkJrpUH2O0
