In the beginning, a land, split in two, held two souls born from the sun and the moon.314Please respect copyright.PENANAKd0cbY9sPt
The soul of the sun harnessed energy that radiated through its skin burning so bright that it was stark white.
Its eyes flickered orange and red, like the light of the fire itself.
It created creatures dependant on the sun. Those who needed it to grow or survive.
The soul of the moon glowed with thousands of stars all over its body that was as deep and dark as the sky itself.
Its eyes glowed bright white, just like the stars sparkling on its skin.
It created creatures who needed the night to protect them. Those who used it to hunt smaller prey of thier own.
The souls of the sun and moon stayed on thier own sides of the split. The sun child was too bright for the moon, and the moon child was too illusive for the sun.
The children met at the split that was so deep and ragged that neither child dared to try to cross it. They stayed on thier sides and let thier creatures find thier own ways to cross instead. They even shared thier new creations with each other by holding them up high for the other to see.
Some could easily fly over the split and sail through the air.
Others meticulously wove silken webs to form thier own bridges.
Some leapt, some fell; never to be seen again.
But, the children stayed, facing each other and thier imaginations come to life.
That's the way it should be.

The night creatures grew to hunt the prey of the day creatures.
They found thier own ways across and tasted the delicious brightness for themselves. The creatures couldn't fight back since they were not adapted to see in the dark as well as thier hunters were.
Any that crossed were swallowed by the dark and never seen again.
The dark stayed vast, and the light remained bright. Neither touched the other until fate brought them together.

A small light flickering through the darkness caught the moon child's eye.
It left its little sleepy hollow and pulled itself out to wander towards it jumping around frantically.
When it reached downwards for it and plucked the twisting vine free, the Moon saw it was a tiny bird with feathers so fine and colourful it was mesmerized by its beauty.
There was orange and red, like the Sun itself. There was white and yellow and even shades of blue from the bright sky that hung over the Sun's side of the split.
The Moon was overjoyed with finding something so beautiful. It clamped its hands over the little bird and carefully walked to the edge of the split.
The Sun was already there, creating creatures with branching horns and thick armour to defend themselves.
It saw the Moon slowly approaching and stopped what it was doing to leave a half-formed creature floating there.
A beak and tail protruded from a swirling lump of brown in its own bubble.
The Moon smiled to the Sun and held up its hands that shone from within.
Opening them, the little bird was revealed. It had been struggling to be free.
It pecked the Moon, drawing bright white blood, before dashing for the safety of the Sun.
The Sun wasn't pleased he had seen the Moon with one of his creatures. The Moon had already let his creations destroy the Sun's so thoughtlessly, to the point that the Sun had to adapt new ones to better protect them.
The Moon cradled his bleeding hand, peering to the Sun who saw the rescued bird perch itself on the floating creature still waiting to be born.
The white blood of the Moon dripped into the creature of the Sun, mixing into the essence creating it.
It began to form itself; turning and twisting into something of both the light and darkness. The beak flattened and widened, as did the tail. Flippers replaced paws, and the body flattened into something more streamline before it fell out of the bubble and bounded away through the sunshine frantically.
The Moon and Sun both watched the escape in surprise before facing each other.
The Moon, feeling guilty of tainting the Sun's creature, made another from the darkness and held it up as an offering of forgiveness.
It knew the Sun liked sweet creatures. This one was small and cute, with a flower for its nose. The Sun was always surrounded by flowers, so it must have loved them.
The Sun only saw the dangers of the thing the Moon held. The claws of the creature were so long and sharp, and the eyes so beady and small, that it had to be another designed to hunt his own.
The Sun turned its back on the Moon who lowered the new creature down and watched it bore into the earth to hide.
What could it do to win back its friend?
The Moon waved its arms to catch its friends attention, holding up a finger so it could search around for an idea.
Then, it thought of something.
The Moon turned around to shield its new creation it pulled together. It plucked and pulled; fluffing and stretching until it turned and held up the flapping thing.
The Sun was confused at what it saw and frowned to the Moon grinning at the thing it held. The wings had no feathers, while the body looked as fluffy as a little kitten.
The eyes were much larger than the first offering and glistened against the light of the Sun's side.
The Moon released the creature and watched it sail upwards, get confused by the brightness, and flap its way back to the darkness while screeching out.
The Sun giggled at the oversight. The only thing that could withstand both thier sides was currently missing somewhere in the brightness. Even Moon's creatures that came over to hunt were blinded by the light if they stayed too long. They just weren't born for it.
The Sun waved it's friend off so it could walk away to look for the hybrid.
The Moon stayed, watching his friend leave, until it shuffled sadly back into the darkness.

The Moon was woken once more by light dancing in the darkness.
Thinking it was another bird, the Moon slid out of the hollow and shook itself awake so it could chase after it.
There was more light too, speckled all around it.
The Moon sprinted along the path the speckled were smeared into.
It had to be blood. The creature wasn't in a good way.
When the Moon arrived, it saw the creature; a chicken caught in the jaws of one of his quolls.
Moon slid towards the quoll and pried the jaws loose to release the bird. The quoll scampered away, trailing more blood behind it as it disappeared.
The Moon's hands were glowing as it held the chicken close. Blood coated the darkness and swallowed up the specks on Moon's body.
It looked almost like the Sun this way.
Perhaps, the Moon could make something the Sun could enjoy for himself?
The Moon carefully eased the bird's suffering and got to work on its gift, using the life of the creature of the light it gently encased in a bubble of water.
When it was done, the Moon picked itself up, smeared body and all, and rushed for the split in the earth.
The Sun would forgive the Moon. They both had tainted creatures now.
Maybe the Sun had wanted it this way? An exchange? Why else would a chance like that be here?

The Moon held up the bubble containing the creature and leapt with joy. It danced with it held high, waiting for the Sun to come and see.
When the Sun bobbed into view, there was confusion once more.
The Moon nodded and gently shook the creature that flipped in the bubble, proud of its achievement.
The Sun didn't see what the Moon was trying to show it. It only saw razor-sharp teeth belonging to a fish as black as the night sky bobbing about in the bubble the Moon danced with. But, there was light coming from within it. There was light smeared all over Moon too.
The Sun fumed at the creature and at Moon.
The Moon had stolen from them again and taken what wasn't thiers to create another abomination. The Sun still couldn't find the last one.
Moon's hands slowly fell down when it saw how angry the Sun was. It looked down at the swirling fish it had created, and then to the glowing blood smeared on the hands holding it.
Moon saw the dissapointment in the Sun and quickly let the excitement fade away.
The Moon was a thief, it knew that, but they only did it to make thier only friend happy.
Yet, that friend held so much anger that it caused the Moon to shield its eyes.
Sighing, the Moon placed the bubble down so it could carve out the earth.
It was easy to shape, just like clay, as the Moon scraped and dug a suitable home for the fish rolling steadily towards the split.
Every scoop of the Moon's hands made the soft dirt bloom with dark water. It filled the little creek the Moon created.
Catching the fish before it was lost, the Moon kept the gift and carefully placed it into the water. The light of the fish illuminated through the spots along its side before it disappeared into the depths.
The Sun saw how miserable the Moon was as it hunched over the little creek to try and find its gift again, smearing light over its eyes when it wiped them.
Simmering, the Sun still fumed, but saw how the rejection was affecting the other child.
Perhaps, it had reacted a little too harshly in its own frustration. Having a creature unknown to it still lost on its side was really stressing the Sun out.
What would it do to the balance of it couldn't find it?
The Sun sighed too, turning to leave on the hunt for the creature again, until it jumped back in surprise.
There, right at its feet, was the creature.
It leant over the split, focused entirely on the water the Moon ran a finger through.
Is that what it wanted?
The Sun scooped it up, it's hands being swallowed by the folds of skin at the creatures arm pits.
It was soft, but also scruffy. The Sun held the billed creature looking back at it from arms length so that the curved spurs growing above the webbed feet wouldn't stick it.
What an odd mixture this was.
The Moon saw the Sun standing there and lifted its head in hope.
It smiled, wiping it's smeared eyes, so it could watch in amusement at its friend being so unsure of what to do next.
The Sun held its gift high, shrugging at the Moon who giggled.
Miming digging away the dirt, the Moon lowered back down when the Sun did to guide him.
The creature was placed on the ground, only to bound back for the split and stare at the water the Moon created.
The sun carved a circle through the soft earth that spilled with clear water sparkling in the light.
It saw its creations nearby watching in fascination.
The Sun smiled as it carved a creek just like the Moon's, spreading it wider and deeper until it was a babbling river.
The creatures gathered on either side to drink the cool water and relieve some of the heat from thier bodies.
The hybrid still leaning over the split was plucked up and placed beside the river.
It slipped in effortlessly, speeding and flipping in delight below the surface.
The Sun grinned at its gift, looking to the Moon watching happily from its side.
Thier eyes met, and the Sun saw how the Moon was only trying to help in its own way.
A creature of light and dark. Something so wonderfully warped but beautiful.
The Moon turned to shuffle back to its hollow. It had made the Sun happy. It didn't want to ruin that.
The Sun saw the defeat in its steps and racked its mind for something.
It pulled together the air to manipulate it. Twisting, squishing, and smoothing, the Sun thought of the Moon when it added in the last touches of colour that disappeared beneath the skin.
Wrapped in its own bubble, the Sun took a running start so it could haul the gift over the split.
The Moon, still unaware, kept dragging its feet, until something hit the back of its head.
It turned, holding the wetness dripping down its neck while bending down to the bubble laying there.
A creature unlike anything the Moon had ever seen was there.
It looked like the bubble itself, but this thing had a little beak beneath the rubbery skin.
Curled and cupped to the sides were eight arms all cuddling the creature the Moon picked up.
It loved how strange it looked. Gasping, it giggled when the creature changed into a multitude of colours to try and match the hands holding the bubble it was bundled in.
Smiling to the Sun, the new friend found its way into the water to seek the darkness.
The Sun and Moon grinned to each other, going thier seperate ways once more.

Friendship blossomed between the two as the months went by.
Both children met at the Split to eagerly hold up thier newest offering to each other and giggle over the oddities as they were exchanged.
They both worked hard on carving out the land at the split so that it could spill swirling, sparkling darkness down into two beautiful waterfalls.
It wouldn't be for years until it was filled enough to be comfortable for the creatures of the water to live in, but the Sun and the Moon didn't mind. They had all the time in the world together to keep strengthening thier unbreakable love for each other, one smile after the other.
That's the way it should be.
