So this didn't happen to me, but it happened to a friend of mine, and I thought it was an interesting story.
So we were rooming together at a religious college called BYU-Idaho full of latterday saits, and without getting too deep into religious beliefs it is important to know that marriage is a big part of the religion, and also abstinence until marriage. which as you can imagine makes college dating very weird.
So with most of the campus housing, they assign a single men's apartment and a single women's apartment together into a group of about 12 people, and encourage them to plan activities together every Monday evening.
So after a few activities together, my roommate started to develop a crush on a southern girl from Mississippi. To maintain confidentiality I'll call her Sarah, and I'll call my friend Alfred.
Alfred asked Sarah on a date. It was just a simple date at a small soda shop. He told me that nothing crazy happened on the date until he went to drop her off. When he parked the car, she ambushed him with a slew of loaded questions.
"So, how do you feel about us?" She asked.
"I mean it was just one date, but I think you're cute, and would like to go on another." He replied honestly.
"Well I really like you. But the problem is, one of my roommates really likes you too."
"Which roommate?"
"I'm not going to tell you."
So as you can imagine when he got back, high fives all around. The man was a legend. We were all just trying to guess which of her roomates had the crush on him.
Well, next day comes, and Sarah completely back tracks. She tells Alfred that she is no longer interested in him. Yet both of them kept showing up for Monday night activities, which was a little awkward at first, but my man Alfred owned the situation like a boss.
Soon after he got a message from the mystery roommate, I will call her Kristy. Kristy was blond, but Alfred thought she was hot. She wanted to hang out, so they started hanging out over the next few days, but nothing romantic happened.
A few days later Alfred got a call from Sarah who said that she wanted to give it another try with Alfred. So they went on another date. Nothing crazy happened on the date, but this made Kristy very upset.
At this point my roommates started to realize what was going on. My man Alfred was just a tool for these two girls to get back at each other. We told him, and I think he knew, but he was just happy to start hanging with Kristy again. Yet again, nothing romantic happened.
Well a few weeks later, Sarah called again, but this time she wanted to get into an official relationship with Alfred, despite the homies best advice, he agreed. Three weeks later, She dumped him.
So he started Dating Kristy. That lasted about three months, then she dumped him too.
To him, getting involved in this mess was the worst decision he has ever made.
