Blueberries have always been blue, it was in the name.
But that girl- that beautiful, wonderful, amazing girl, Cherry Glass- was always challenging the laws of the world. It was never half-heartedly, either, she meant every word she ever said.
Vesper remembered her exact words. They were sitting on the bus, idly chatting to one another- when Cherry said something quite outrageous.
"Blueberries are blue, right?"
"Yes," Vesper had confirmed.
Cherry furrowed her brow at that. "Well, why can't they be pink?"
"Pink? Like your hair?" Vesper questioned, motioning to Cherry's bubblegum pink coils that sprung from her head.
"Well, any type of pink will work, I suppose," she mused. She had always liked the color pink, or any other color that was considered cute. She would shroud herself in a world full of the amazing color if she had the chance.
"Blueberries can't be pink, though," Vesper laughed, crushing Cherry's daydream with the harsh reality. "They're blue."
"Yes, they can, I'm sure of it. Anything can be possible, after all, like you being here with me. To think that I would become this close with the most beautiful, popular girl!"
Vesper bit her lip and looked out of the bus window to hide her blush. Cherry was her crush, and to have her spout those words, especially since she knew that she meant one-hundred percent of it- she was going to practically pass away. But, she never mentioned any of it. "I've never seen a pink blueberry before," she stated.
"Well, I'm sure somebody has. I like the idea- it makes the impossible possible, and I like that- just like you!"
Vesper would have died then and there, especially with how much she was blushing through her pale skin. "What do you mean?" she mumbled.
"I like the idea of pink blueberries. It means that they're strong enough to stand up to what people usually say, and go: 'no! I won't conform, and I'll be myself!'"
"Go on," Vesper said, intrigued, and turned her head to glance at Cherry's deep brown eyes.
"I also like you. You're just like pink blueberries."
"In what way?"
"You, too, can stand up, and say: 'I'm strong! I'm me! I don't care what you say!'" Cherry giggled. "I really like that about you."299Please respect copyright.PENANAnyMJ0Oq0C9
Vesper rolled her eyes. That seemed like the worst description of her possible. She was the complete opposite- weak-willed, unable to say no. She changed herself to suit other people.
At least, that was what she was like at the start of the year... Before she met Cherry.
Had she really changed that much and not noticed it?
She blushed and looked back out of the window.
"I know you have doubts, but remember that I only see the truth, and say the truth, Ves!" Cherry leaned over Vesper's shoulder to get a look at her face. "So for example, when I say this, remember that this is the absolute truth."
"Okay...?" Vesper agreed, though she didn't know what she was agreeing to.299Please respect copyright.PENANARINxK3TJ6j
"I. Like. You!"
Eh!? Vesper was now completely red, and her thoughts were racing at a million miles per hour. Maybe Cherry just meant as a friend. Some girls do that, right? With other girls?
Yeah, that was the only possible reason. There was no way that this beautiful, amazing, truthful girl, who she was completely, one-hundred percent in love with- would like her back. Or confess her love in such a manner?
But then Vesper realized. Yes. Cherry was definitely the type to confess in such an anticlimactic way, and mention it casually in passing.
"I-I- like as a friend?" she murmured, just to confirm before she did anything rash.
"No, silly. Like, I like-like you."
"Platonically?" she didn't know why she was trying to deny herself this opportunity. It seemed too good to be true.
"Romantically. Like kissy kissy love love!"
Vesper mumbled to herself, flustered, but now it was confirmed. Cherry definitely liked her back. "Well..." she couldn't believe she was actually saying this. "I think... I like... you too." She said the words slowly, and looked over every part of Cherry, just to make sure that this was real and she wasn't dreaming.
For some reason, Cherry seemed surprised, but quickly giggled. "Thank you!"
The next few minutes of the bus ride were spent in silence, but Vesper kept glancing at the girl beside her every so often, quick little peeks for a few seconds at a time.
She didn't know what to do next, but she had an idea.
Should she do it?
Well, it was now or never.
Vesper leaned over, and quickly, she pecked Cherry's cheek. Just a small kiss, but something monumental to her.
This time, it was Cherry's turn to blush hard, but it didn't appear as much on her darker tan skin. She still felt the heat behind her cheeks, though. "Ves...?" She didn't expect her to be so forward, but she kind of liked it. Her heart was pounding in her chest.299Please respect copyright.PENANA1LFdYh0zVv
Cherry gingerly smiled, admiring the warm feeling in her heart. Vesper smiled too, and she somehow seemed more flustered than her, despite being the one to deliver the kiss. But then she spoke, just a tiny little thing she said softly.
"By the way, Cherry, I think you're just like pink blueberries too."299Please respect copyright.PENANAoAMok75Ou2
