My kind really wouldn't be very pleased with me.
After many long days and cold nights of exploring, I still hadn't found a supply depot. Supply depots contain rare resources but are guarded by sentinels.
Well, that changed... and the luckiest thing that could've happened did happen.
Let's backtrack. I was exploring with my Exocraft known as the Pilgrim when I came across yet another unknown structure. On my scanner, it showed a sentinel near the structure which was about five hundred units away. I immediately knew it was some kind of sentinel outpost or a supply depot, either way I had the urge to take down.
So I drove over and my suspicions were confirmed; it was a supply depot. Five supply tanks were there, and I had a cannon now on my Pilgrim. So with that in mind, I resupplied the cannon so I didn't have to reload part way through the battle ahead. I also recharged the engine and since it was night, refuelled my hazard protection shield to prevent me from freezing through the battle.
I had two minutes before I ran out of shielding regardless, but it was more than enough to take out the tanks and run. But first, I noticed some chests next to a small beacon. I moved back to my Pilgrim after looting the chests and charting the area I was in.
I felt a fear as I got in my Pilgrim that I couldn't place my finger on. I'd done this before, why was I afraid now? I pushed through the fear by taking a deep breath.
And I fired my cannon.
It all happened in a blink of an eye. The response of the sentinels was almost immediate, a full on attack as I knew reinforcements would be on their way.
I blew up the first tank.
I started shooting the second tank and I don't remember what happened next.
All I know is that I woke up hours later, still in my Pilgrim but with the supply depot nowhere to be found.
Perhaps it was that new technology I had installed into the Pilgrim? Maybe that was what saved me.
Either way, a sentinel strike gone wrong... but saved by sheer luck.
