When I wake up, I find myself snuggling against a soft blanket. All seems okay, until I remember what I had learned the previous night. They don't have a cure... I ran away from my family, my friends, and walked hundreds of miles for nothing? It can't be! I yawn and sit up.
Elissa sits beside me, messing with her hair. She looks tired, like she stayed up all night looking after me. Maybe she did. If Sunset City doesn't have a cure, then who does? Maybe I can just escape to Alaska. Hopefully the plague hasn't gotten up there yet.
"Good morning, Sleepy Head." Elissa says, tugging her long hair into a braid.
"What time is it?" I ask.
"I don't know, around nine o-clock?" She answers, glancing up at the sun.
"Geez. We better get moving then." I groan as I stand up, but the pain is substantially smaller.
"We?" She asks in confusion.
"Yeah. Don't you want to come to Alaska with me?" I reply, smoothly.
"Alaska?" She says, jaw dropping. "Are you serious?"
"Yeah." I reply.
"That's, like, up through Canada. They have polar bears in Canada. We can't survive that!"
"I'm sure we can deal with them, just leave it up to me, Elissa." I say, squeezing her hand softly.
"Alright, I'll go with you, but only because you need someone to change your bandages every few days." She says.
"Okay then, let's go."
We started running. We didn't stop until we were well beyond the city limits.
And so started our journey.
