I was wandering around the rubble of a once prosperous city, the wind howling, ash falling like snow, and cracks running through the earth like scars. The air was dense with smoke, fires ravaged any buildings it could reach, eating up the material like a hungry beast. Corpses were scattered about like trash, either burned to crisp or crushed by the falling remains of the skyscrapers.

It was a gruesome sight, but I continued my journey. I was aimlessly exploring the freshly made hellscape, poking anybody I saw with piece rebar in the hope to get some sort of reaction. It was a useless activity, but it was the only thing keeping from breaking down. I had to find someone, but how could anyone survive this? No one was spared when the two strongest people of earth clashed. Heroes, villains, even the citizens were caught up in the chaos, if you were in the vicinity of the battlefield you were sure to die.

I only escaped the devastation because I was teleported out of the area, amidst the battle that led to the fall of the city, a hero and villain teamed up to save as many citizens as possible. But they only got a group of small people out before they were destroyed by the crossfire. I was part of that group, I’m only a minor villain known as Deadeye, the only thing I’m good at is firing a gun with pinpoint accuracy. So when it came to evacuation I wasn’t useful, I was just considered another life to save. I was being teleported to the outskirts, but when they died I was only half way there, so I ended up in the sewer systems.

I waited till I heard no more sounds of fighting, I only emerged from my stinky refuge when all I could hear was the aftermath of destruction. It was then I started my journey to find any sign of life, traversing the hard terrain to see if anyone, whether it be a hero or villain was alive. So far no luck, not even the higher level heroes and villains were left alive. Their colorful clothing stuck out from everywhere, from afar it looked like confetti. I was looking for a friend of mine, but I don’t think I’ll ever find him. Was I really the only one left within the city?

Suddenly, a cry for help radiated north from the wasteland. It came from the crater in the middle of the city, where the main battle took place. My heart lifted, their voice sounded familiar, perhaps my friend somehow ended up there. I ran through the wasteland at full speed, jumping over and dodging the obstacles in my way. I soon found myself on the border of the circle, it sloped down into a pit. I slid down the side, the ground disintegrated making it into a fine powder. When I landed I saw who called from within, it was Zero, the worlds strongest hero. Lying crippled beside a corpse that I figured to be what was once the infamous villain, Infinity.

His eyes gleamed with hope, for he thought someone had come to save him. But all I could do was look at him in disgust. I didn’t hate him for being a hero, I hated him for causing this destruction that most likely killed my friend. Everyone was dead because he just had to fight Infinity within this city, was there really no other place he would have fought him? His hope soon dwindled as I assume he saw my face of disgust. Then fear soon replaced any emotion he had when I pulled out my gun, strong or not, he wasn’t regenerating. Which means a shot to the head would most likely finish the job. He pleaded with me “Please no! Don’t do this to me! I don’t want to die!” but I wasn’t listening, I just wanted him dead. Why of all people should I spare him, when he didn’t spare anyone else. So in my eyes, this was justice for all those who died. I put the barrel to his head, he desperately tried to reach it, but he was to crippled to move in time.

I pulled the trigger, the shot rang throughout the ruins. His body flopped over, the blood dyed his superhero suit a new color. I dropped the gun to the ground and looked to the sky, the stars twinkling bright as ever. I killed him, I got what I wanted. But even in the end, it felt as if nobody won.
