My heart swung from side to side like a dangling locket. There was a young man in front of me, his eyes ice cold. A swath of dark hair was oiled back with something shiny and black. A tattooed rose peaked out of his white shirt that was almost invisible under the navy-blue suit. A pair of light lemon sneakers shuffled on the ground. "Leo." An angry voice snarled with edges of pure hatred, white-hot. Startled, I realised it was my own. We had been friends since when we was in Level 4 and I was in Level 2. I was twelve, naive and young. In Level 7, he betrayed and ghosted me for Craig. That was two years ago. 88Please respect copyright.PENANA9gjBJFdu1O
"Cassia." he replied, a snarky sound within his 'welcoming' tone. Hardly anyone uses my full name. Beside me, Arya stretched her hands out with a huff. 88Please respect copyright.PENANAH3DKBo9qKg
"Enough of your chittering. Mama said Leo and Craig had to come, regardless of old wars or Levels." snapped Arya. She tugged out another man from behind Leo. He had dark blonde hair, a checkered suit and a babyish look about him. Craig gave a mock-wail, looking as stupid and awful as ever. 88Please respect copyright.PENANAIm5aeGv3xT
"B-but, Ary, I was buttoning his shirt." he complained and Arya pushed him aside.88Please respect copyright.PENANAuSXOVb4Pf5
"Be glad you got to come. It was this or working at the Level 10s' party." she reminded them. Gosh, the Level 10s' were so lucky, they partied almost every day. I pulled my dark green coat further around my chest with a shudder. The late chill whispered around my face and cold breath billowed into the night air. It was a January evening and thin strips of snow and frost covered the ground. It was nearly the end of Christmas break before we all had to go to the CAA again. The Levels would come back and the strict barriers would be put in place. But thanks to us dramatic pupils, they stay all year round. Arya led us down an alley, her boots clinking against the cobbled ground. As darkness seeped over our heads in an arch shape, the boys looked rather uncomfortable. Arya stopped next to a large warehouse at the end of the sketchy street and peered at the crack. Faint glows and sounds trickled from inside. My bestie grinned and slipped inside. Craig went after her, looking rather terrified. I grabbed Leo's collar, bundled him in, and dived down after him. Suddenly, the lights exploded. It was a giant hall full of Levels from 6 to 8 and everyone was partying. They was music, discos, dance-offs, foods and laughter filled the air.88Please respect copyright.PENANAGzZJNbLyDN
"So many cute girls! And food! And dancing!" they both ran off, squealing like children and me and Arya lost it. 88Please respect copyright.PENANAjFvdu7h3bk
"Level 9 must be boring!"guffawed Arya. "THIS IS THE BEST NIGHT EVER, CASS."88Please respect copyright.PENANA9izkRKiPa5
I whooped and raced out to join them. If only I had known.88Please respect copyright.PENANAuwpuyw2HfL
