Chapter 2
As I run into the portal I am engulfed in white light so blinding I can't see. The only thing I can do is keep going forward. As I stumble through the light I hear tiny voices whispering to me telling me amazing wonders that I may find but I push the voices aside.
Suddenly the light becomes so intense I have to close my eyes to stop myself from being blinded. All of a sudden the floor beneath me gives way and I am consumed by an endless void. After falling for what feels like forever I come to a sudden stop on some not so soft mossy ground. The wind was knocked out of me and I had to lay on the floor for a moment to catch my breath.
When I can finally breathe again I rise to my feet, looking around for any clues as to where those men have taken my brother. As I look at the ground in the strange grove I was in I see footprints still fresh in the mossy ground. I started to head in the direction of the footprints hoping that my brother was alright. It was dark but there were tiny glowing fairies floating around me giving me enough light to see. Finally after walking for over an hour into the woods, i see a small camp.
The campfire was barely lit and the men surrounding it were asleep. But what really caught my attention was the man laying farthest from the group. Next to him was my little brother. He looked scared and he was looking around to make sure he was safe. When he saw me his face lit up but I motioned to him to stay quiet. He nodded and I quietly made my way over. Pulling out my pocket knife that day had given me I cut the rope tying Amari.
When the rope was cut I picked him up and started to make my way out of the camp. Just as I am at the outskirts of the camp I accidentally step on a twig. The sound was quiet but the noise was enough for it to alert the men. They shot up to their feet, turning towards us. I dash out of the camp running back in the direction of where I fell. I run as fast as I can on bare feet. Twigs and rocks poking the soles of my feet.
The men are fast but I got a good look at them as I entered the camp. They were thin but muscular, with long pointy ears. This gave me the idea that we are no longer on earth. As I ran Amari clung to my neck like a baby koala. Now I am glad I took track this year. Finally I made it back to where I came through. I had a few moments to look around before we were caught.
I look around frantically trying to find the portal but I can't find anything. Amari tugs on my shirt. The men have caught up to us. Suddenly a little fairy flew up to my ear and began tugging on it. I shake it off pulling my pocket knife. Suddenly I'm swarmed by a bunch of fairies who began tugging on my hair and my clothes . Amari looks at me, confused. “ What is it NIa” he asks because he can't see the fairies. The men look between me and Amari coming to some strange conclusion.
Suddenly one of them lunges at me causing the fairies to flee. He gets behind me and before I can do anything he hits my neck. Time slows down and the last thing I see before blacking out is Amaris' worried face.
After a while I hear a beautiful voice singing in a language I have never heard but can understand for some reason. Opening my eyes I see I am floating on top of a large lake with beautiful mountains and spectacular crystals jutting out of the water. In the middle of the lake floated a beautiful African woman who looked a little bit like me. Her hair was longer than mine, she had pointed ears, and she looked older but that's where the differences stopped.
She floated towards me landing on the surface of the water in front of me. Kneeling down she reached out a hand for me to take. When I take it he helps me to my feet. “ Who are you?” I ask once I am on my feet. She smiles. “ Why, I am you. Well I'm the fae version of you” she says. When I looked confused she laughed. It was my laugh. “ you see, you are dreaming.” she said.
Motioning for me to walk with her she continues to explain. “ this is the world of the fae. The fairies you see in your world come from this world. You can see them because your soul comes from here too but it left our world and inhabited your current body.” she tells me. “ This world is in deep trouble and you, with your powers, are the only one who can save it.” I look at her confused.
“ How can I save this world if I don't even know how to access my powers?” I ask. She nods. “Currently you are in the castle of the crystal queen. She and her court will guide you” she says, placing a hand on my shoulder.” i'll be here to guide you whenever you need me. Just go to the head priest and he will help you contact me”. I nod but suddenly everything goes black. The woman drifts away smiling at me. As she begins to disappear too i chase after her wanting to know more but it's too late the darkness engulfs me and i fall asleep once more.
