Maybelle:
Well as continued to walk around and the scenery started to change going from woods to open fields and prairie. I realized it going to be hard to stay hidden and I soon started feeling sick as time went on, and I didn't know why. but it seemed like the time I was free seemed to speed up and soon I saw my stomach was getting bigger. I began to wonder if I was pregnant. My fear was confirmed by the pain was experiencing. I remember that day it was late in the evening and I was in horrible pain this went on into the night and it seemed to happen so fast before I knew it there was a baby between my legs. I was in shock, I didn't know what to do.
Matilda:
Oh, my! Was it a boy or a girl?
Maybelle: (Speaking with sadness in her voice)
It was a boy, I named him Samuel. He was so small and he cried very little and tried to take care of him, but he died a couple of days later.
Matilda: (Speaking with sadness in her voice)
Why did he die?
Maybelle: (With sadness in her voice)
I'm not sure why, I guess he just wasn't meant for this world. I soon buried him under a tree said a small prayer, and went on my way.
(Maybelle pauses and puts her head down)
