I couldn't stop thinking about my dream on the way to work today. It was very out of the ordinary and way too realistic for my liking. I stop at the red stop sign and let the other maroon car pass. Letting the dream slip out of my mind as I plan my day at the library. I have been working there for almost 15 years, ever since I graduated and could make my own business really. Books had always been my passion, and I wanted to share it with the world, so moving to the small town of Willow Tee was the 'world' for now. I stopped at another red light and looked at the sun slowly rising over the hill side of town, admiring the beauty and calm before everyone woke up and got busy. Zoning in from the stare, I turn the steering wheel left and push the pedal.
I reach the library after a few more minutes and do my routine of checking in and checking out books, then placing them on the shelves in order. The cycle continues till the first person comes in, I greet him with a smile and the counting checking in books. I finish checking in all the books and put them on a cart to be organized and put up. I go to sit down but am stopped when I hear a clutter of things fall. I rush up and fall the noise or worried grumbles. I reach the man, and he smiles awkwardly.
"Sorry 'bout that. I didn't mean to," the man replies, looking guilty as if he'd committed a crime.
"It's ok, really. I have plenty of teenagers come in and make worse messes." I reply, sounding short and sweet.
The man looks humbled and quickly picks up the books. Setting them all on the small table that sit next to the shelves. Looking around awkwardly, he runs a hand through his hair and then sets it on his hip. I noticed his awkward figure and picked up all the books he'd set on the table. Giving him a smile with a nod, trying to ease him.
"Can I help you find anything while I'm here right now?" I questioned.
The man shakes his head and walks off toward the small lounge area. A small giggle bubbles in my throat as I sort the books on the shelf. Once finished, I walk back to my desk and look up for overdue books, sending reminders that people almost never read. I flip over to a new tab and continue to write a book I had started a few days before. The man leaves, and before I know, it's closing time. I walk around the whole library, making sure no one is still in here when I close, taking a few more minutes to pick up trash and random books on the floor. With everything picked up and put away, I take a glance around and turn to lock up the door behind me as I walk out. Wiggling the door before I walk away and setting my keys in my purse. Walking down the sidewalk, I walk out to my maroon-colored car that has a dim glow from the light pole beside it. I run my hand along the door handle and unlock the car, sitting down and turning the key to start it. So, I drive home without a care but am still mentally triple checking everything I'd done.
I reach my house park in the driveway, leaving room for Damion when he arrives. Opening the door, I toss my keys in the bowl and grumble my way up the stairs. I quickly change into my pjs and flop into bed all in the time Damion arrives home. I slip under the covers and drift off to sleep, already planning my schedule for tomorrow's day at work.
