Questionable Buffet
By: Nera
The orphanage looked different. The dining area and the kitchen was much larger, the other orphans seemed really excited, and although Ms. Melody was still nowhere to be found, Winter was preparing several dishes. "How did she learn to cook so fast?' I thought, even though I knew it was all a dream.
"Good morning, Nera. Feel free to walk around and take whatever you like." Like usual, I played along. "Oh, why thank you, Winter! I have to admit, I love that waitress uniform, even though you got a little bit of frosting on it!"
"I do?"
Winter proceeded to look down and licked it off. "Oh, that isn't frosting Nera."
"What was it then? Fruit punch?"
"No silly, it's blood!"
"Oh, I get it. What kind of meat were you chopping up?"
"It's a secret." she answered, holding a finger up to her lips. "Here Nera, try this. I made it personally for you!"
"That's sweet of you." I answered, taking a bite. Yet, it only took me a second to realize that the flavor was off, and I ended up spitting it back out. My stomach started turning. I backed away from Winter as she held a knife menacingly. "What's wrong? Did you not like it?"
"I better leave."
I headed out the front entrance and heard a phone ringing. The source seemed to be coming from my pocket. I answered, only to hear someone breathing heavily on the other end. "Nera, where is Winter? I want to see Winter, Nera."
It was Delta, and he seemed distressed. "I will show her what I taste like. How dare she cook me, I loved her! Do you hear me, Nera! Nera!" I hung up, but as soon as I held it up to my ear again, his voice was still there.
"You ate part of me, Nera. You both are guilty."
