“You are dismissed, Roudolphus.” And that was her cue to go. Ge held the audio recorder close to her, grinningly excited. There was more, ah, ‘news’ for her to report, and oh she would report it. She received the alert about the sun disappearing earlier that day, but as concerned as she was, she couldn’t resist gossip- I mean, news, whenever it showed up.

She slid herself into her small and frankly hideously bright green car, and sped off before anyone at the NASA base had noticed she was there. She took a harsh turn onto the highway, vehement excitement shown as she sped down the road, passing only animals who had the misfortune of being alive while the sun had gone.

Ashlynne knew exactly how she would title the story: “Disappearance of the sun more than it seems- but the government can’t trust the people with the truth.” Though it wasn't directly snarky or obviously finger pointing, it had just the right undertone to attract the standard news reviewer. Her goal was not to report the news. Her goal was to profit, and the best way to do that in American society was to badmouth others.

At this point, she already arrived, the air, she noticed, getting continuously colder. She ran from the cold, determined to report her story, and entered the seemingly abandoned parking lot, in front of which she parked. She ran up the staircase, the elevator out of order, and shuffled into her apartment, of which lay at the end of a red carpeted hallway.

Slamming the door behind her, she set her jacket aside, and breathed in the air of being in the only place above ground that had electricity for miles. Other than the NASA Pennsylvania facility, of course. She plopped herself into a couch, her severely poor taste in decor shining, the mustard green sofa creaking under her weight. She snapped open her computer, and uploaded the audio from her audio recorder to edit it to fit her needs.

She typed, smiling mischievously all the while, and published the article, with a manipulated audio snippet to go along with it, on to the internet, available for those who could still afford internet. Her statements on the “lack of action of the government” would surely be her big payday, and she’d finally be able to afford getting out of here.

Ashlynne smiled, snapping her laptop shut, proving satisfied with her ventures.
