"My name is Mike and I'm Taylor's best friend."
Carmen looked at the guy standing before her as he extended a hand to her. Hesitantly, she took it and he shook her hand.
"I'm─"
"Carmen, I know. You think Taylor wouldn't tell me anything about his lady?" he said, a smirk visible on his lips. When she heard his last few words, she felt her cheeks heat up slightly, causing her to look away from him.
"It's so cold in here, you want a sip of my coffee to warm up?" he offered but she shook her head.
"No thanks."
He nodded and sat down beside her, watching Taylor with her. There was silence around them only for a little while before Mike spoke.
"I heard that you're pregnant— oh I can see that you are," he corrected himself as he looked towards her abdomen. As she felt his eyes on her, she began to feel uncomfortable. She shifted in her seat and he cleared his throat.
"I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable."
She shook her head slightly as she looked at him, saying,
"It's okay."
Silence surrounded them once again until Mike broke it by saying,
"I got a gift for you and the baby but I didn't think I'd see you so I left it at my dorm. Do you mind coming with me to get it?"
She hesitated when she heard that, wondering if it would be a good idea to leave without telling Taylor.
"It'll only take a few minutes," he said, almost as if he had read her mind. She looked at him while she thought about it. And when he stood up and offered her his hand, she couldn't get herself to decline. Taking his hand, she followed him towards the door.
And as soon as she stepped out of the door, he spilled his coffee on her. She bit her lower lip to keep from screaming as she felt the hot liquid touch her skin.
"I'm so sorry," Mike told her as they both looked at her shirt. Pushing aside the burning sensation which she felt, she forced a smile as she shook her head.
"It's okay, don't worry about it─"
"No I can't let you walk around like this. Come on," he said before grabbing onto her hand and pulling her behind him.

When they got to his dorm, he offered her one of his shirts and wouldn't allow her to leave until she had changed. And so, she entered the washroom and changed into the shirt. She stepped out to find him sitting on his couch, facing the TV.
"Why don't have a seat and rest for a little bit?" he asked. Judging from how he kept making different offers which would cause her to stay, she began to think that he was up to something. However with that in mind, she walked up to him and sat down. And as soon as she sat down, he took out his phone and pulled her closer to him.
"Let's take a picture, I'll send it to Taylor and ask him to come too."
Hesitantly, she smiled at the camera before he took the picture.
About ten minutes later, he looked at her and told her that he had to fix something on the shirt that she was wearing. And as he was fixing it, the door opened. She tried to turn around to look but he forced her to stay in place.
And before she had the chance to learn what was going on, Mike was pulled away from her by his collar.

"Do you still have feelings for her?" she asked as she looked at him. And as soon as those words left her lips, her heart began to race with uncertainty. She didn't know how she would feel if he said that he still had feelings for his ex. But what she did know, was that his answer would not change her mind about having the baby.
Silence continued to stretch around them until she stood up and offered her hand to him. As the lamp beside him blinked, he held onto her hand and she pulled him up, smiling slightly.
"You don't have to tell me how you feel about her because that won't change my decision about the baby. If you want to go back to her and try to be with her, I wouldn't hold anything against you."
And with one last smile, she turned around and began to walk away. But the more steps she took and realized that he wasn't going to stop her, the more her eyes began to sting as an uncertain feeling captured her heart.

Carmen paced around the living room later that evening, one hand rubbing the other nervously.
It had been well over five hours since she had last seen him and she was beginning to worry. However, she wasn't sure if she was worried that he would really go back to his ex or worried that something might have happened to him.
"Carm, you need to sit down," Abby told her, walking to her and directing her to the sofa. But as soon as she sat down, she was back up again.
"Carm," Abby called her name.
"I can't sit still, I'm worried."
"But walking around isn't going to make you worry any less."
Carmen didn't have anything to say to her best friend's words but she didn't need to say anything because in the next moment, her ringtone filled the room.
She quickly rushed to it and answered the call.
"Do you know the owner of this phone?" an unfamiliar male voice asked.
"Yes I do," she quickly replied, nodding her head rapidly as if the caller could see her. He gave her directions for where he was and she rushed out of the door with Abby in tow.
