The first thing [Your Name] noticed when she woke up was the soft, luxurious fabric beneath her fingertips. She blinked her eyes open, the dim light in the room slowly coming into focus. She wasn't in her attic anymore, nor was she in the arid lands of the savannah. No, this was different complete
Silk sheets draped across her body, and when she sat up, she realized she was dressed in a gown far more opulent than anything she'd ever worn. Rich, deep crimson fabric clung to her form, embroidered with golden threads that shimmered in the light. Her fingers touched the delicate lace at her wrists, and she felt the weight of a small tiara perched on her head. For a brief moment, she was utterly disoriented.
She pushed the covers aside and swung her legs over the edge of the bed, the cool floor beneath her bare feet anchoring her. She stood shakily and made her way toward the window. Pulling back the velvet curtains, [Your Name] gasped softly. Outside, a garden stretched far and wide, its hedges trimmed to near-perfection. But what caught her attention most was the scene unfolding just below.
Men ehm soldiers, by the looks of their uniforms were painting white roses... red.
She frowned, leaning closer to the window. The soldiers worked quickly, splashing paint over the blossoms as if trying to cover up a mistake. Their serious expressions made the absurdity of the task even more surreal.
"What in the world...?" [Your Name] whispered, eyes wide with disbelief. She stepped back from the window, her heart racing. None of this made sense. Where was she?
She sank down onto the bed, trying to gather her thoughts. The last thing she remembered was fleeing from Leona during the wedding, the strange book in her hands as light engulfed her. It had transported her here, wherever here was.
And Leona... She swallowed hard at the memory. In the last story, she had inhabited the body of a side character Shenzi who had played a critical role in the savannah's politics. Somehow, Leona, who had clearly been based on Scar from her world's stories, had fallen for her. But unlike the villains she remembered from the movies, Leona had been different more intelligent, manipulative, and dangerously obsessed.
And that book... She had to find it again. Whatever magic it held, it was the key to her returning home. But before she could think further, a shrill scream shattered the air, making her jump.
"OFF WITH HER HEAD!" The mad shriek of a man echoed through the halls, followed by the stomping of feet and the clanking of armor.
Her heart leapt into her throat as she scrambled to her feet. "What is happening now?" she whispered to herself, eyes wide with panic.
The door to her room burst open, and in marched a young man with fiery red hair. He was older than the madboy king she had imagined, his figure lean but imposing. He was dressed in royal attire, his sharp features twisted in fury, and on his head sat a small but ornate crown. His eyes, blazing with anger, locked onto her immediately.
"You!" he shouted, his voice ringing with authority and wrath. "You! My wife! You've cheated on me!"
[Your Name] stared at him in shock, her mind scrambling to process what he was saying. Wife? She hadn't cheated on anyone! She wasn't even married!
The red-haired man a king, she realized from the way he was addressed by the servants continued to rant, his hands balled into fists. "I am your king! And you DARE betray me? You think I wouldn't find out? SOLDIERS, CUT OFF HER HEAD! In the name of king Riddle Rosehearts king of Hearts CUT OFF YOUR HEAD!"
The soldiers moved hesitantly, clearly uncomfortable with the order. Panic surged through [Your Name] as she raised her hands in a calming gesture, desperate to defuse the situation.
"Wait! Wait!" she said quickly, stepping forward with a forced smile. "My dear husband, my king, please. I have never betrayed you. I would never do such a thing! Who told you this?"
Riddle's chest heaved as he glared at her, but his anger faltered at her words. "Lies! All lies! You've humiliated me!" He gestured again to the soldiers, but his voice was less certain. "Take her!"
Before the soldiers could move, another figure entered the room a composed man with glasses and dark green hair. He stepped in with the calm authority of someone used to handling these situations.
"Your Majesty," the man said in a measured tone, placing a hand on Riddle's shoulder. "Perhaps we should discuss this more calmly. The queen has always been loyal to you. Are you certain of the accusation?"
Riddle's fury faltered further, and he cast a glance at the man beside him. "But Trey... they said..."
Trey, the man with green hair, offered a gentle smile, his voice smooth and persuasive. "People will say many things, Your Majesty, but it's best to examine the situation before making such a drastic decision. Perhaps we could talk this through?"
Riddle hesitated, his fists unclenching slightly. He glanced at [Your Name], his expression torn between lingering suspicion and uncertainty. "You... You swear you didn't cheat on me?"
[Your Name] nodded quickly, seizing the opportunity. "I swear it, my king. Whoever told you this has lied to you. I am your loyal wife. I would never hurt you."
Riddle's eyes softened just a little more, and he sighed, his shoulders slumping. "Perhaps... perhaps I was mistaken." He shot a glance at Trey, then back to [Your Name]. "But... I will keep my eye on you," he warned, his voice still sharp. "Don't think I'll be fooled again."
"I understand," [Your Name] replied, keeping her tone gentle. "I only wish to be by your side and serve you faithfully."
Riddle gave a curt nod and then, with a wave of his hand, ordered the soldiers to leave the room. He stormed out after them, still muttering under his breath, but far calmer than before. The door slammed shut behind him, leaving [Your Name] and Trey alone.
Trey watched the door close before turning his attention back to [Your Name], concern etched on his face. "Are you alright?" he asked quietly, stepping closer.
[Your Name] let out a shaky breath, finally allowing herself to relax a little. "I think so," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "But... I didn't do anything. I have no idea why he thinks I cheated on him."
Trey gave her a sympathetic look. "The king... he has a temper. His outbursts are notorious. But he values loyalty above all else. If someone planted the idea in his head that you were unfaithful, it was likely out of jealousy or spite."
[Your Name] nodded slowly, though her mind was racing. She still didn't fully understand what was happening. How had she ended up here? And why was she suddenly married to a king with such a volatile personality?
Trey's voice broke through her thoughts. "If you ever need someone to talk to or confide in, you can trust me," he said. "I've been the king's adviser for many years, and I know him well. I can help you navigate his moods."
[Your Name] managed a small, grateful smile. "Thank you, Trey. I... I appreciate that."
Trey nodded and took a step back. "I'll leave you to rest, then. But remember, you're not alone in this." He gave her a reassuring nod before leaving the room.
Once the door closed, [Your Name] sat back down on the edge of the bed, her mind spinning with questions. She thought back to the red roses being painted outside and the erratic behavior of her supposed husband. Pieces of the puzzle began to click into place.
The roses... The king of hearts...
Her eyes widened as realization dawned on her. She was in the world of Alice in Wonderland and she wasn't just any character. She was the Queen of Hearts' husband. But in this story, the Queen was a male figure: Riddle Rosehearts, the volatile and temperamental king of the Hearts Kingdom.
Her heart raced. The previous story she had fallen into had placed her as a significant character, but this? This was on a whole new level. She was married to a character infamous for his temper and cruelty. If she wanted to survive this world, she had to play her part carefully. And somehow, amidst the chaos, she had to find the mysterious book that had transported her here. It was her only chance of making sense of this bizarre journey and of returning home.
But first, she had to stay alive in the maddening world of Wonderland.
