What's waiting for you out there? Are you hunting for treasure? Seeking adventure? Or maybe you just needed a change in scenery? Either way I ccan't really blame you.
You've been walking for a little while now and the trees are beginning to thin. The sounds of the forest, the singing birds and chirping bugs and rustling leaves all begin to fade behind you, all giving way to a cool breeze and the sound of the ocean. The trees fade altogether into a meadow, just like the one you heard about. Good, that means you didn't get lost. The grass in the meadow is soft, and you can't help but lie down for a minute. It's okay to rest a little, you have plenty of time. The afternoon sun is still high in the sky and you're going exactly in the direction you want to be going.
But again... Where are you going? The beach is right down that way, you could make it in half an hour if you just climbed down that cliff. Or, do you want to head for the city? You can always follow the road to your left, it runs over that grassy hill in the distance all the way to town.
But then again, maybe you don't have to decide just yet. A hawk soars by over your head and you stretch your arms. Today is just the first step for you after all, the first step into the rest of your life. You can go anywhere you want, see anything, do anything.
Sure, it won't be this easy all the time; no doubt you'll run into trouble. Wherever you decide to go you'll find challenges and you'll find setbacks. But that's part of why you want to go so bad, isn't it?
Lying here in the grass you can't help but think about home. You're leaving some things behind, that's for sure. But there's nothing you can do about that. You couldn't stay there forever, you needed something more. Something's out here, somewhere, and you're on your way to find it.
You stand, brush the grass off of your clothes and pick up your backpack. You take one more deep breath and grin fiercely. Look out, world. You're on your way now, and you couldn't be more excited.
