It's late and the moon shines bright on the night starry sky. Many people are fast asleep while I can't find my sleep tonight, looking out the open window up to my old friend the moon. Admiring its gentle pale light and the stars sparkling like diamonds. It's summer in the city and a warm breeze blows by at times gently while in the distance I hear a nightclub or two playing loud music and a siren wailing at times. The living pulse of the city, some people love it and others hate it. It never bothered me but it's not something that I would love.
Why I can't sleep is because lately I've been having the same dream or rather nightmare. My dreams are far away from normal; they are vivid visions of my future. I dream them and they will happen some time soon. Soon as in within the week up to many years later. Sometimes I wake up and remember every detail and other times I remember nothing, so at times I have trouble to predict when what happens but not this nightmare that I have now for about two weeks. I fear it is a warning, danger is coming my way in the shape of large dark smoke consuming everything that lay on its path, my high school crush included. Even now after ten years I still have a crush in him.
Since graduation I haven't seen him and during those high school years were hard years for me in many ways. I was alone without friends because I was different what many perceived as odd. Little did they know that I am a woman with special powers since I can remember. Not even my foster parents know a thing but they love me for who I am and visit them often as I can on the weekends. My powers made certain things easier and harder in life. For instance, I'm never late thanks to my teleportation, zapping one moment from one place to the other within a blink of an eye. During school I learned that I can hypnotize any living being and focus on only one at a time. I did mostly to bullies to leave me alone and once on a teacher to let the class have its day out. During my teenage years I felt uncomfortable using any of my powers, especially when my crush was close by. I always felt like a freak and was shy or even scared that he thinks the same. I wonder if he still does?
Well, in my nightmare the smoke came closer and closer to my crush and I could not just leave him. So, I used in front of him my powers to save him. Through teleportation bringing him to a safer place. What happens after that I don't know because then I wake up in sweat or the alarm clock pulls me out of my sleep. Besides the emotional concern for my crush I wonder where that black smoke would come from? Is it a being that can think its own or is there a inventor behind it who controls it? All in all the dream leaves me confused one way or another, including with lack of sleep it's beginning to drive me up the walls. Another good reason why I wish to be normal like many other people.
"Why did you use these colours to my design? They don't match at all, Miss Stravinski." Noted my boss angered and hammered the papers onto my desk.
"The colours you suggested were too ordinary. You said yourself every design should be unique, so I combined with unique colours and patterns." I explained truthfully.
"My designs are unique, redo the sketch with the colours as I suggested, Miss Stravinski." He hissed and paced off angered.
With a heavy sigh I started to copy the sketch. I work in a fashion company and dream of becoming a fashion designer myself but not snobby like my boss and only designed for the rich class. Mine will be simple but elegant for everyone who wants to wear them. Most of my clothes in the wardrobe are designed myself and sewn, except the shoes but even there I have my own ideas and change them a bit before I wear them.
The day was long today and all I wanted after work was to go to bed with a cup of tea and read a book or watch a movie. As I was out of the building a strong breeze blew down the streets. I did not let the wind bother me and my hair and walked off, heading home. Usually I take a bus but today I was still a bit fired up of my boss, so I decided to walk it off. As always after work the traffic on the streets is busier and wilder than an anthill with a chorus of cars honking, sirens wailing and few drivers shouting and cursing about the traffic.
Suddenly another strong breeze blew against my back. "Mia." I heard a soft whisper calling my name. I began to look around me. Nothing out of the ordinary. Was it just me imagining? "Mia." It whispered again slightly louder and clearer. I turned around to see if a person nearby called me. Nobody was that close to me. The breeze continued to blow strong.
Suddenly in the distance I heard people screaming. I looked further around me. At one end of the street I noticed the large familiar wave of black smoke approaching fast towards me. "No." I whispered in dread of the sight. Immediately I looked carefully for a familiar face and hoped he would not be close by of the smoke. As the smoke moved closer, many people in the distance tried to run as fast they could, others were petrified and hoped the car or building would protect them. Quickly I had the urge to see closer to be sure my nightmare could be avoided in some way. Finding the inventor or ruler of the smoke to stop it. Quickly I teleported to a rooftop a building and inspected closer. Down on the street I spotted a familiar face that I hoped not to see, for once. There he was few feet away from the consuming smoke, running for his life as a full grown man, still handsome as ever. "No." I whispered. Quickly without thinking as the smoke drew closer I teleported to him. "Come with me!" I spoke and held to his arm to teleport him with me to a safer location, for the time being.
"Wha-" He exclaimed and blinked.
I let go of him and stepped back. Letting him recover what just happened. "Mia." I heard the whisper again but more distant this time. Could it be the smoke? How can a smoke talk? Come on Mia, snap out of this.
Suddenly he fell to his knees and held a hand to his head.
"Are you ok?" I asked concerned and stepped a bit closer.
"Just very dizzy but I'll be fine, thanks." He said. After a long silent moment he got back to his feet and blinked at me amazed. "Mia?"
He remembers my name! That must mean something. I couldn't help stop grinning at him. "Yes, Henry. It's me."
He scoffed and blinked in disbelief. "What happened? For a minuet I was running from a giant black smoke and now I'm in safety thanks to you."
Nervousness grew within me so great I had almost trouble speaking and drew my long curly nut-brown hair back behind my ears. "Well, what you just saw was a secret of mine. I- I have special powers. Teleportation as you've experienced was one of them." I paused and embarrassment took hold of me. "This all sounds like a tall tale but it's the truth. I have those powers since I can remember and kept them a secret from everyone because I want to be normal and accepted like ... you." My cheeks and ears began to feel very warm as I crossed my arms behind my back while looking sideways away shyly.700Please respect copyright.PENANA3095u8vv5H
