We all turned around to see a plump woman with waist length wavy red hair and dark brown eyes staring at us. She had to be Crimson’s mother, I could see the resemblance between them. Her eyes stared at Crimson and I in shock; well mostly at me. Her mouth was practically to the floor as she slowly stalked towards us as stared at me.
“You-You’re-” She stammered as she weakly pointed a finger at me. But then she did something that shock us all.

“PRINCESS?” Apricot and Gray shouted as they looked at me incredulously. I could only rub the back of my neck sheepishly as I raised an eyebrow at the comical sight in front of me.
“OUCH MOM!” Crimson shouted as he tried to shield his head from her merciless assault with the bag of carrots. “I DIDN’T KIDNAP HER, SHE’S HERE ON HER OWN WILL!”
Crimson’s mother stopped her assault and looked at him with scrutinizing eyes. “Why would the princess be here, in my house, on her own will? In fact, why are you even with her?”
“BECAUSE I AM HER ROYAL GUARD MOM!” He exasperated as he flung the poor bag of carrots to the ground. “God, I told you this already over the phone!”
“You mean, you were serious?” She raised an eyebrow. “I thought you were just screwing around as usual!”

“What do mean if I was serious?” He furrowed his brows. “Of course I was serious mom! I made a bank account just to put money in it that I earned for you”
“There is actually money in that account?” Her jaw dropped. “Jesus Crimson why the hell didn’t you tell me?”

“What!” Crimson threw his hands up. “Mom, I love and respect you very much but, what’s wrong with you? I’ve been putting money in that account for the last three months and you mean to tell me that you haven’t even touched it?
“Crimson, I didn’t know you were serious about it!” She said. “I sent you to the capital to study at RHA, not to become a Royal Guard!”
“Well things happened mom and now I’m the Royal Guard of Princess Alex!” He rolled his eyes.
“Crimson-” She started but he cut her off.
“Mom, this is Alex,” He introduced. “And I should also tell you that we’re together,”
“What do you mean together?”
“Alex, this is my mother Nia Cross,” He ignored her.
“Nice to meet you?” I said unsure. She seemed quite shocked when Crimson told her that we were together and didn’t even seem to acknowledge me.
“Crimson Nathaniel Cross!” She glared at him. “What do you mean you and the princess are together?”
Nathaniel? Ha! What a dumbass name!
“What do you think I mean when I say together mom?”
Her eyes narrowed on him for a few moments before they widened in terror and she suddenly grabbed the two of us by the forearm and stared us down in the eyes. “Are you two having sex?”
Both Crimson’s and my jaw dropped the floor as we listened to her accusation. “What? No mom we-”
“Crimson Cross! You are her royal guard and even I know that it is absolutely forbidden for a royal guard to be romantically involved with their assigned royal! But you two are sleeping together? Oh God Crimson what if she gets pregnant? That will be an international scandal! The Royal Family will turn into shambles and it’ll be all your fault! How can you possibly live with yourself if that happens? And what about the baby? The King and Queen wouldn’t want an illegitimate grandchild living that luxurious palace! They’ll kick it out and then it’ll fall on my responsibility to raise the child into a respectable human being because it’s parents couldn’t keep it in their pants when they were two horny teenagers!”

When Crimson said that we were together, he meant as a couple. And I know that it is still forbidden for us to be together but, we have undeniable and genuine feelings for each other that we just can’t suppress; and I am not talking about hormones,”

I scratched my head and gave a light chuckle. “It’s a but of a long story, but I would love to explain it to you over some snacks!”
Her eyes widened at my slightly demanding tone. “Oh! Alright then, I’ll get some snacks,”
“Thanks Nia,” I took a seat on a very sunk in couch that almost swallowed me if Crimson hadn’t pulled me up. Gosh how can they possibly sit on these pieces of shit!
“Would you like some coffee?” She asked from the kitchen.
“Yes please!” I responded in a tone that was a bit too sugar-coated. “I want Jamaican coffee with three cubes of brown sugar and two table spoons of Silk Soy Milk served in an English Burlington cup!”
Everyone looked at me with wide eyes and raised eyebrows. Shit I forgot! Poor people like them can’t afford coffee! They probably don’t even know what that is!
“Alex, I don’t think I’ll have that in my kitchen,” Nia said.

Nia rolled her eyes and sighed. “Fine, I think that it’s great that you want to bring your Alex here to stay with us but, I don’t think we have the room to house her. I mean, this is only a two bedroom house and Apricot and Gray already share a room and-”
“Then we kick those two on the couch and Alex and I take the room!” He said with the utmost seriousness.
“Absolutely not you ass!” Apricot glared. “If anyone’s sleeping on the couch it’s you. You’re the man!”

“Then where the hell am I supposed to sleep huh?” I said with attitude. “Because I sure as hell am not sleeping on a couch,”
“What if Apricot and Gray slept in my room with me and you two can take their room,” Nia suggested.
“NO MOM!” Apricot protested. “I love you and all but I don’t want to squeeze in a bed with you and Gray! It’s way too hot for that!”
“It’s either that or the couch, you decide,” Nia leaned back in the chair as Apricot groaned before she finally agreed to sleep in the bed.
