I ask you to be patient, for letter writing isn't my area of expertise, though I can try, because there are things I need to tell you; things I don't say often enough, or at all. How can either of you say you are broken, when you're filled to the brim with so much potential? You're so stuck in what society says about you that you can't see the truth. Each and every one of us have our scars and patches, some more visible than others. That doesn't make you broken, but means you need a bit more tender care, love, and understanding. There's nothing wrong with that, and you shouldn't be made to feel that way. But, maybe it would be the best to address the two of your separately, so I will do so, you'll know when I'm referring to you, and there is no need to give your name, for you know who you are and I know who you are and that is the only thing that matters,so here we go.
You always say you hated your past, your at times childlike mentality, and your scars. You don't see that underneath the things you hate is a handsome young man with a kind heart who still managed to retain some innocence despite the living hell that was your childhood. Your scars, they're a sign of victory, proof that you were stronger than the demons you faced. You fought, lost a few battles, but in the end you conquered.
You always loved The Outsiders, it was something we shared, so here's a line for you. Stay gold. You always reminded me of Johnny, because so much like him, you looked like a puppy who had been kicked one to many times. Yet you always get back up, no matter how dark things are. So, stay gold, and don't lose that part of you that maintains innocence, because that is something that is lost in this world, and we need more of it.
Don't let anyone get you down, make you feel worthless, or treat you wrong, because you deserve so much better than that. You have people who think the world of you, and would do anything to see you happy. You have family who care. And always remember, blood isn't always family, and family isn't always blood. Even though I'm miles away, I'll do my best to be there when I am needed, because that's what friends are for. So, the next time you feel down, or you want to hurt yourself, just remember that you are loved, and that maybe you just need to love yourself, because theirs so much about you to love. Every storm runs out of rain, and the rainbow is just over the horizon, waiting for you to look past the storm clouds and accept that while you can't stop the rain, you can enjoy the rainbow. I'm not even sure how to write this to you, but I will to the best of my ability. First of all, there are some things you need to know about yourself. You're beautiful, smart, talented, and have one of the kindest hearts. You aren't broken, not any more than the other person who this letter is directed to. You just need someone to understand and care.
I'm states away, so I can't do half as much as I wish that I could. I wish I could wrap you in a hug, and then lead you to where you want to be, with the people you want to be with, even if I had to walk barefoot over broken glass to make such a thing possible. You're family to me, and you know that, and you know that I don't claim many people as family.
Do me a favor, please? Don't give up on yourself. You have so much potential, so much about you that is pure, and wonderful, yet you can't see it. You aren't perfect, but you're one of the most perfect people to be friends with and one of only two friends I can honestly say is like a sister. Believe in yourself and believe that you can overcome every challenge you face, those at home and abroad. Don't ever give up on yourself, and you'll be successful, but you have to have a bit of faith in yourself, because that's one thing you are lacking. If you believe you can overcome this, you can. Just trust me with this.
So, to both of you, you are some of the best friends I could ask for, and I wouldn't trade that for the world. I would do anything i could to make the two of you happy, for that is something you deserve. I would sacrifice my own happiness for you, and for those I consider my closest friends. You need to look inside yourself, past the things you don't like and see the beauty that lies underneath, the true strength. I wish i could show both of you what I see in you through my eyes, because then you could see just how wonderful and strong you are. Don't let the world knock you down, because you're stronger than those who oppose and oppress you. When others threaten who you truly are and try to mask it, let it shine through twice as strong. Surround yourself with those who love you and lift you up, not those who drag you down. Have faith, stay golden, never give up and remember that the mighty oak was once nothing more than an acorn, and that some of the most successful people in the world started out as commoners like us, people with a dream. So, find your dream and reach for it, and then reach farther, and if ever you start to slip, i'll do my best to pick you back up, because thats what friends are for.
