"i think you'll like it out here, it's quiet and peaceful, there's so much scenery where you can do your paintings, it's all free accommodation too, you just need to look after Mercer" Macy spoke up for the first time since leaving the airport, the girl in the drivers seat beside me, she was a nice woman with long brown hair that curled over her shoulders and gorgeous sky blue eyes that suited to her pale complexion, she wore a flowing white summer dress with blue lily's climbing down the side, sandals on her feet, since we had met she had kept a kind smile on her face and it hadn't wavered along with her constantly cheery tone.
my eyes remained on the passing trees beyond the window as we drove along an empty road through a beautiful, bright forest that seemed to go on an on forever s we wound around corners and bends, a couple of times over a bridge above a flowing river that sparkled in the noon day sun, before now i had lived in a city and i had never seen beauty there like i did here, there was an abundance of it and i simply could not turn my eyes away.
"here we are" Macy informed as she pulled off onto a dirt drive and drove up through more twists and turns, it was far more narrow then the previous paved road but it led up high and higher, deeper and deep until the trees opened up just a little into a larger driveway in front of the most beautiful house i had ever seen.
the house wasn't large but it was two stories and overgrown with vines and made of old brick, a wise old house that no doubt had many stories to tell of the people that had lived in it during it's existence "beautiful right, come on, i'll give you the tour, the best is out the back of the house" Macy was getting out of the car already and i quickly followed her in exiting to collect my things from the boot of her vehicle.1103Please respect copyright.PENANAvd3jn2QBYw
the path to the front door was short, an old stone path, the door was already unlocked but the car already parked in the driveway was no doubt the current caretakers vehicle, the woman was getting old and had recently decided to retire back overseas with her husband so that's why i was here, because Macy had been in search of someone else to take care of her little brother, apparently i was just the type of person she'd been looking for.1103Please respect copyright.PENANA8A3tx6PbQt
the house was quiet but bright, walls painted white and the floors a bright shining wood, polished to perfection, not even a creak in my step as Macy led me in, it was a wide open space past the hall where the stairs led to the second floor, a massive modern kitchen with a polished island counter lay against the far right wall, centered in the room was a lounge set, a sofa, recliner and coffee table, to the far right of the room it was mostly empty space and a piano facing towards a full wall window, behind me were shelves of books against the wall, so many i knew it would take days of free time to read them all.1103Please respect copyright.PENANAs3KBTz0uq3
the wall before be was simply a massive door that slid open to the sides and led out onto a wooden patio then out into a huge garden marked with a stone path and flourishing with flowers of all kinds, i could never have imagined seeing something so beautiful in my entire life, it was like stepping into a fairy tale, i was half expecting some mystical creature to come my way.
"this is the main part of the house, it's just where you spend the day basically, the kitchen is always stocked, there isn't any television cause my parents don't like TV but there's books and cellphone service, most of the books on the shelf are braille but there are some you can read and you can always take a walk into town to get more or there's internet, anyway, i'll take you upstairs" she said, turning back to head to the stairs.
the stairs were all wood and polished like the floor, the rail was smooth but easy to grip and i ran my hand along it as i ascended the stairs after Macy, one at a time until i reached the very top, the upstairs was much more closed off them the down stairs except there were no doors besides the one for the bathroom, it was odd like that but i figured having doors for a blind person was basically pointless, he couldn't see anything so there was still privacy and no doors saved him having to search for the handle to open them.1103Please respect copyright.PENANAanpTfDGaOy
there were three rooms on the left, the first was empty the second was the bathroom and the third was some sort of study, four doors on the right, the one before the stairs was a bedroom, the second one also a bedroom, the third one another bedroom and the fourth one wasn't empty but i could see an easel and a stool in front of a tall window, otherwise the room was more empty then not.
"here we are, this is your room, Mercer's room is the one right before the stairs" Macy said as she stood by the third door on the right, i moved passed her and entered the room, it was cozy, a large double bed sitting back against the right wall, the window looked out over the garden and the sun shone in brightly, there was a set of drawers opposite the end of the bed against the wall and cupboard to my right, two matching side tables with matching lamps, it was a perfect little room, it reminded me of the lodge my father would take me to when i was younger, when he had the time to spare to spend a few days with me in a small town in the middle of no where, these days it was rare we ever saw each other.1103Please respect copyright.PENANAC3CQRED0wv
"i set up the next room for you to paint in, anyway, we should go get your luggage out of the car, then i can introduce you to Mercer" Macy said, i gave a nod, soon i would meet the man that would be under my care for the foreseeable future, it was going to be odd looking after a blind man but i'd been mute my whole life, at least i could understand what it was like to be different.
