SCENE 3
Craig knew that today went totally awry, but at least he got what he wanted. As he dressed into his black pajama pants and a dirty white pajama shirt, he broke the silence. “Well, I think auditions went all right today.” He said casually. Jerald P just glared at him while thinking of a response. All he came up with was, “Yeah, you talked real smooth, didn’t you?”
Craig partially ignored Jerald P’s sarcasm. “It could have gone better if I was given the lead role right then and there.”
“It could have gone better if you just accepted the role he gave to you!”
“I’ve never accepted the ‘lower’ roles and I never will.”
“Clearly you don’t care about what others feel about your singing or acting, it’s all about you.”
“No, it isn’t!” Craig telling the truth wasn’t exactly one of his strong points.
“Tell that to the camp director. You’re lucky God is letting you stay here.” All Craig did was let out a sigh before Jerald P spoke once more. “This conversation is far from over. We’ll talk more later.” Jerald P then pulled his navy-blue cotton blanket over himself, rolled over, and fell asleep. Nothing Jerald P said seemed to get to Craig. Unless it was beneficial to himself, Craig regularly just let Jerald P’s words fly in one ear and out the other. Craig thought it was best if he just lied down for now and forget about all the bad things that happened today. “If only they would cooperate with me.” He said before closing his eyes and falling into an abyss of emptiness for hours.
