SCENE 8
The first thing Craig heard when he woke up was the sound of Jerald P yelling something. He expected something like this to happen again. “Craig! You need to get up! Something just happened last night!” Jerald P had shouted. Craig yawned and opened his eyes at a snail’s pace, then asked, “Like what? Someone else went missing?”
“That’s exactly what happened! But this time, it was Karry who went missing.”
“Who’s Karry? Is she that girl who was judging auditions with Harold and Mr. Bartholomew?”
“She’s the one.”
“And I’m guessing Mr. Bartholomew knows about this already?”
“He was the first one to find out that Karry went missing.”
“All right, let’s head on out there and listen to his news.”
“Okay.” Jerald P walked out of the room and Craig changed out of his pajamas and into some regular clothes, a T-shirt and jeans, then followed Jerald P into the lobby, where the remainder of students stood before Mr. Bartholomew. Craig stood next to Jerald as they waited for what Mr. Bartholomew was going to proclaim. 514Please respect copyright.PENANAfzFSFdi2l0
“Students! I’m afraid I have more bad news to announce to those who don’t already know. Karry Johnson went missing last night. Just like Harold, Karry disappeared late at night. Obviously, whoever is behind these disappearances doesn’t want to be seen. Having thought about that, I’ve come up with an idea. We will be staying up throughout these upcoming nights until we find out who’s responsible, and in the day, you have the choice if you want to sleep or continue looking for Karry and Harold. With all this, you students are dismissed.” Mr. Bartholomew dismissed the students with a wave of his hand. Everyone walked in separate directions to converse. Craig and Jerald P stuck together as they always do. “Now, Jerald, I know what you’re thinking.” Craig stated as he walked next to Jerald P.
“Do you really?” Jerald P questioned.
“You’re thinking, ‘Craig, we need to participate in staying up late and catching those guilty of the disappearances instead of just sitting around and singing.’ But, I’ll have you know that I was going to take part in staying up to keep watch. And I was going to ask if you were going to as well.”
“Well, since you asked, of course I’m going to be staying up! I think it will be thrilling to finally find Harold and Karry’s kidnapper.”
“Or kidnappers.” Craig emphasized the plural.
“You make a good point. What if there are more than one of them? What then?”
“Then we’ll know there are more than one.”
“Besides that, genius.”
“I’d say we could fight back and prevent someone else from being kidnapped.”
“Fight back with what, though?!”
“Well… how about kitchen supplies?”
Jerald P let out a sarcastic laugh, but he obviously didn’t approve of Craig’s idea. “That’s a great idea! We could throw butter knives at them! That’ll really scare them off, won’t it?!”
“Why are you so worried? There are so many of us versus one of them, or maybe, just maybe, a couple more than one of them, but still, our chances of catching them and stopping them is high up according to my standards.”
“I guess you’re right, but tonight when everyone starts watching out, we need to stick together, then we’ll less likely be taken.”
“Exactly! See? I knew you’d come through at some point.”
“By the way, you’ve just given me a great idea!”
Now Craig was concerned. “Please share.”
“I was think we could build a mini-base.”
“What?” Jerald P’s idea confused Craig more than algebra did.
“Yeah, like a defense system so that we’re protected if we catch the nappers.” Now Jerald P’s idea was starting to make some sense.
“Although a defense system may make the nappers suspicious, but it may be worth the try.” Craig figured they didn’t have much of a choice but to build a mini-base, what could possibly go wrong with, though?
“That’s what I’m talking about!” Jerald P cheered as he and Craig high-fived. Jerald P was overly confident about his idea, Craig was just praying that it would really work. It had been forever since Craig stayed up all night doing something. He was only 9 years old. He and Jerald P had a sleepover at his house, they watched movies, played games, slept, all the fun things little boys usually do at sleepovers. Craig wanted to do another sleepover, but his parents, as well as Jerald P, got tremendously busy with work that they never had time to plan for one. But who would’ve thought that the manager of the Filming Arts & Acting Industry would allow an all-nighter. Craig loved the fact that he could just try and stay up all night and most likely fail, but it was all worth it.
