At breakfast the next day, Dustin had everyone in a jiffy as he endlessly whined about not finding his math homework. After a failed attempt at searching by the entire house, the family decided it would be better if Dustin went to school without it. Dustin's sulking face , however, was not a pretty site at the kitchen table. "Oh, for the love of God, Dustin. Just tell your teacher your dog ate it", huffed Regina in irritation. "Sure Regina, because she would totally believe me", Dustin sobbed. "Uggh, have you ever not submitted your homework? When I was your age I didn't even know what homework was". "And that's why, Regina, Dustin has much better grades than you. Now stop being such a good influence on him and finish your breakfast", Mrs. Smith said to Regina, with the look in her eyes which told Regina it was time to shut up. "And Dustin, tell your teacher that you did complete your homework but can't find it. Here, I'll write you a note. And I expect you to be more responsible from next time. Sixth graders don't just lose their homework, alright? And lose the sulky face now,Dustin". "Okay", Dustin mumbled.
"Where is Trevor? Trevor? Honey, hurry up , you are going to be late for school!". "Just a minute, Mom!" "You kids have no urgency to reach school, I tell you. None of you would ever reach on time if it wasn't for me. When I was in school , I used to be so excited to go to this haven of knowledge that I used to be ready half an hour in advance...". "Looking for this, Dustin", Trevor's voice echoed off the stairways. The Smiths looked upwards in unison to see Trevor clutching a neatly maintained notebook. "My math notebook!", Dustin lunged from the table upstairs to Trevor and grabbed the notebook from him. It was hysterical to see him clutching the notebook as if it was his long lost child. Trevor playfully shuffled Dustin's hair and his long, lean legs made their way down to the breakfast table. Elated, Dustin now finished his breakfast at lightning fast speed and it was soon time for Mrs. Smith to drop him off, leaving only Regina and Trevor at the table.
"Funny how you found that notebook when no one else could. Are you sure you didn't use it to roll up joints secretly in your room?", Regina eyed Trevor with mock sincerity. "Ah Regina, you know me so well. Just because I play soccer doesn't mean I smoke joints. Anyway, I found it underneath your bed. I hope you weren't using it to write love letters to the poor Alice girl again. That's a very cruel joke to play on someone, Regina", Trevor spoke through his waffles to Regina, each word filled with malice. "I'm sure you found it pretty funny when you were the one dropping those letters in her locker", Regina spat back, a stern expression on her face. Trevor looked at Regina with an expressionless face, and then burst into a roaring laughter. "Yeah, that was surely something. You remember that one time she wrote back. 'Oh Trevor, I was afraid at first that all this might be a cruel joke. Something to laugh at for you and your jock friends together. But now I believe you. I like you too Trevor, and I believe every word you wrote. I know you are writing these letters because you don't want to be seen talking to me, but if you really feel what you write , then meet me today at the Maple Shack Café at 5'", Trevor imitated a high pitched voice of a girl, amidst his fits of laughter. "You're a good writer, Regina", TREVOR smiled at her. "Oh, and you're a player Trevor. Going to meet your to-be girlfriend Alice with your current girlfriend Jane. My My!", laughed Regina. They both got up to leave for school, still laughing at the gullible Alice , and made their way to Stonewood High, of which they were the rulers.
