Canada.
It's a land known for it's breath-taking beauty, a land where noble mountains stand tall and lordly rivers flow, where prairies stretch out as far as the eye can see, and where brilliant lights dance in its Arctic skies. It's the land of the lumbering moose and the nomadic Canadian geese. It's the land where Monarch butterflies and Red-Tailed Hawks take wing in its spring and summer skies, and Cardinals fly in the winter. It is the land that God gave Abel.
My mother's Irish ancestors fled their home in Ireland to make anew in Canada and my own father came from across the sea with his family for a life which Portugal could not offer. Canada is the land of immigrants, of dreamers, of innovators, of people who refuse to back down at a challenge. It is a cultural mosaic comprised of thousands of nationalities and ethnic groups, all who came with their language and culture in tow.
Canada is built out of tragedy and heartbreak but it is also built with triumph and even pride. Our name comes from the Huron-Iroquois word kanata which means "village" or "settlement". And that is what we are, a large village, a large settlement of people.
Canada has its flaws as with any country but I believe in and love Canada and its people. I believe that it can be improved upon since Canada is and always has been, a work in progress. 842Please respect copyright.PENANADcm8y9AWnQ
