LATER THAT DAY....Riley's POV
"Riley! I heard that you're switching schools!" One of my friends said as I closed my locker door. I turned to her and nodded as I sighed.
"Yup. My mom and dad want to switch me to some other school far away." I explained.
"Do you know where you're going to?" My second friend asked as he walked up to me.
I nodded. I didn't mind telling my two friends about where i'm going because they know i'm half dragon and they sworn to secrecy. Just looking at my two friends, Emily and Jake, I know i'm going to miss them so much. Of course we could always visit each other over the weekends, but it wouldn't be the same because they're not right here.
I sadly looked away. "I'm...i'm going to an all dragon school..."
I heard Emily and Jake gasp.
"You're not serious are you?" Emily asked.
I looked at her and nodded slowly. "As serious as cutting off my own dragon claws."
Emily frowned then she hugged me. I gently patted her back, but didn't hug her.
"That sucks, man. Do you know why you're going?" Jake asked.
I nodded at Jake as Emily pulled away from me.
"My parents said that it'll be better if I went to an all dragon school so I can learn about my culture more and I guess they just want me to be around my own kind." I explained to them.
I saw the looks on their faces and it wasn't happy. We all pretty much felt the same. With me switching schools. I don't know much about my new school and it scares me. I wish I could take Emily and Jake with me or at least try to convince my parents to let me stay here, but....
"Mom said that if I don't like my new school then I can come back here." I suddenly said.
Emily and Jake's faces went from sadness to happiness.
"Well, that's some good news right there." Jake said.
I nodded. "She said I have to stay there for at least two weeks."
"Great! That settles it then." Emily said.
"But...what if...I dunno. What if there's a possibility that I like my school. What then?" I asked.
"Well, just pretend you hate it so you can come back." Jake said.
I smiled worriedly then looked away and sighed. Easier said than done. I glanced at the time on my watch then looked back at my friends.
"I have to get home. I'm sure there are more things to discuss about me switching schools." I said then me, Emily and Jake started to walk towards the entrance of the school. We stepped through the doors and I looked around the school's area. Then I started to walk down the steps and turned around, looking up at my school.
"I'm sure going to miss this place." I said.
"Aw. Don't be sad. Are you transferring tomorrow?" Emily asked.
I shrugged. "If I am, this will be our last goodbye..."
"For now." Jake said with a smile.
I couldn't help, but smile too then I waved to my two friends.
"I'll call you both. Bye for now." I said then started to walk away from the school and on my way home. I walked down the sidewalk, not daring to look back. I can't look back. I won't look back. It's already hard enough for me to leave like this. So suddenly too.
When I got home, mom and dad were waiting for me in the kitchen. I set my bag down in a dining room chair.
"What's up?" I asked.
"We've received a call from the principle of your new school. He said we can come fill out forms and take a look around tomorrow then after that, you'll be enrolled." Mom explained.
I nodded then crossed my arms. "So, what's up with this new school?" I asked.
My mom and dad exchanged glances then looked at me. "It's a boarding school. You don't have to wear a uniform, but you have to live in a dorm."
My eyes widen and my jaw nearly dropped.
"W-what?! Y-you mean...I have to actually live there?" I asked, shocked.
Mom nodded. "I know it sounds scary to go away, but think of all the opportunities you'll have by going there. You might make new friends that will show you around and help you get used to the school."
I frowned as I shook my head. I really didn't like the sound of this. My mom walked over to me and wrapped her arms around me.
"Don't worry about a thing, okay?" She assured.
"Try to think positive about this experience, Riley." My dad said.
I sighed as I stared at the floor. What experience?
THAT NIGHT AT DRAGON ACADEMY.... August's POV
"I just heard from my dad that we're getting a new student in two days." Tori said to all of us as we all sat in my dorm room that night after dinner, before bed.
"Really? A new student? Cool. I hope he's friendly." James said as he bounced up and down on the empty bed across from mines.
"Daddy said that he's coming here tomorrow with his parents to check out the place." Tori continued to explain.
I was sitting on my bed next to Tori while Kevin sat in my desk chair next to my bed. A new student, I thought. It has honestly been awhile since Dragon Academy had received new students. Like James said, let's hope he's friendly. I wouldn't mind allowing him into our group and show him around the school.
"We should probably act as good people and show him around a bit. Maybe we can even allow him to be in our group."
"Bad idea!" Tori suddenly said.
I blinked my eyes, confused. "Um...what?"
"We can't allow him in our group and we don't even know who he is." She said then sighed. "August, you're just too nice." She said.
"I agree. We should see if he's cool enough first." James said.
"James? How about we see if he's friendly enough first? Who knows, we allow him into our group too early and bam, he turns against us."
Tori nodded. "Exactly."
James pouted. "Fine... What do you think August?"
Everybody looked at me. I didn't know what to say so I shrugged. "Sure. It makes sense and I don't want him to backstab us."
Tori smiled. "Good. It's settled then."
I sighed then stood up. "I'm going to the bathroom." I said then left the room.
On my way down the hall to the bathroom, I heard voices. I looked around me, but didn't see anybody so I shrugged and continued to walk when I heard the same voices again. It sounded like...Tori's dad talking. I crept close to the principle's office and peeked inside through the cracked door to see Tori's dad talking to a human man. I listened closely on what they were trying to say.
"This is one magnificent school you have here, Charles." The human said.
"Yes. I know. It took years to run it." Tori's dad replied.
"I'm sure it did. What will you do once you retire?"
"I'm not sure. I'm hoping that someone else can run it, but I don't want just anybody running this school. You know, I attended this school when I was my daughter's age and my dad was running this school. Now he's retired and I took over."
"Are you wanting your daughter to run it?"
Tori's dad chuckled. "Never in her life will she want to stay in school. Even if she's not the student."
"Hmm. Well, something has got to change. You're not getting any younger."
"And i'm not getting any older either. Maybe I won't retire."
"No. You must. You can't push yourself like that. Maybe perhaps I can take over when you leave."
My eyes widen.
"Oh, George, you can't possibly mean that right?" Tori's dad asked.
"I do. Just have faith in me."
I slowly stepped away from the door. Tori's dad is going to retire and some new guy is going to fill in the position? Not only that, but the guy is human! I wonder if Tori knows about this...I turned on my heel and rushed back to my room. Fuck using the bathroom. This is way more important. Then I stopped. Wait, if Tori knows, I can't just tell her. It'll crush her. I have to do something, though. I sighed.
Great. A new student is coming tomorrow and now i'm worried about Tori and her dad, I thought.
