THE NEXT DAY....Riley's POV
I sat in the backseat of the car while my dad drove through the town of Arcadia. Today's the day where i'm going to check out my new school. A dragon school. I'm still a bit anxious about it, though. It's a dragon school where practically nobody would know that i'm a half being. I'm currently still in my human form but once we get there, I know I would have to change into my dragon form. Maybe it's because i'm so used to being in my human form, but whenever I change into my dragon form, I get a bit uncomfortable. Like, i'm not in my own skin. To tell you the truth, i'm not sure which skin is my own skin. My dad is a full blooded dragon while my mom is a full blooded human. It's difficult to choose who to take after. It's like, i'm stuck in between a war of humans and dragons and I have to choose which side to take. I don't even know if my parents want me to become more dragon than human.
I sighed as I comfortably sat back in my seat, staring out the window while listening to some soft, relaxing music. I laid my head back on the headrest and closed my eyes when suddenly, I heard my mom speaking. I opened up my eyes and took out one of my earbuds.
"Huh?" I said.
"I asked if you were nervous about seeing the school?"
"Oh.." I nodded then relaxed against my seat. "A little..."
"There's no need to be nervous, Riley. To tell you the truth, I actually attended the dragon school when I was your age." My dad said.
I blinked my eyes, surprised. My dad never told me this before.
"Really?" I asked.
He nodded. "Yup. I attended the school when the school's current principle's dad was the principle at the time."
I slowly nodded. "So...does that mean you're the same age as the current principle?" I asked.
"Yup and he has a daughter your age. She could be your first friend and show you around." He said.
"Oh..." I glanced out the window. I wasn't sure if I was looking forward to making new friends this quickly. I miss my old ones, but I know there's no way I can see them. Especially since i'll be living at this school. I sighed then closed my eyes and pushed the earbud back into my ear, drowning out all the sounds around me. Soon enough, I fell right asleep.
"Riley, wake up. We're here." I heard my mom speaking to me.
I slowly opened up my eyes to see her standing next to me with the car door open. I quickly rubbed my eyes then pulled my earbuds out of my ear and shoved my music player into my pocket. I got out of the car and stretched out my stiff body.
"The school hasn't changed a bit." I heard my dad say.
I looked around and saw him staring up at the school so I followed his gaze. The school was huge! It looked just like a castle and there was a huge forest that practically surrounded it. I then looked up at the sky. The sky was sorta grey and gave off that eerie look. Spooky.
"Well, let's head inside shall we?" My dad then said and locked the car doors.
I took a couple deep breaths to calm my nerves then I quickly changed into my dragon form. I have sky blue skin with purple eyes, but my eyes sometimes change color depending on my mood. It's sorta cool to look at, but also sometimes annoying because it's so easy for anybody to tell how i'm feeling by just looking at my eyes.
When we stepped into the school, I saw a lot of kids walking around and talking. Despite the outside of the school looking like it came out of a scary book, the inside looked pretty normal. Except for the red walls and dragon statues at every corner. Yup, this is definitely no ordinary school.
"Let's go look for the principle's office." My mom said then she and my dad started to walk through the school. I quickly followed after them.
On our way to the principle's office, I saw a group of kids that were about to walk past us. There was a black skinned dragon with blue eyes. He was taller than everybody in the group. Next I saw a purple skinned dragon with hazel eyes. She looked pretty perky. Then I saw a yellow skinned dragon with green eyes. He was messing around with the group and last but not least, I saw a red dragon with yellow eyes. He seemed more friendly. He was even sorta...cute.
I felt myself smiling until I saw the red skinned dragon with yellow eyes look at me. My smile quickly disappeared and I quickly looked away. Though, when I slowly looked back, I noticed that he was still staring at me. My eyes then looked over at the rest of the group and I saw the yellow skinned dragon pointing. Next thing I knew, the group was walking up to me and my parents.
"Excuse me, are you here to see my dad?" The purple skinned dragon asked.
"Why yes. Do you know where his office is?" My mom asked.
The purple dragon nodded. "I'll show you. Come with me." She said then started to walk away from her group. I watched my parents follow after her before my eyes landed on the three guys.
"Hey, newbie." The yellow dragon said.
"Uh..." I blinked my eyes as I felt my heart pounding. I glanced over at the red dragon to see that he was still staring at me and then...he smiled.
"Hey." He greeted.
"Oh...uh..."
"Riley!" I heart my mom yell.
I immediately blushed. "C-coming!" I shouted back then ran after my parents.
Once I reached them, I stopped running and panted. Suddenly, I couldn't stop thinking about that red dragon. How his eyes looked, how he smiles, how soft and friendly his voice is...I could almost feel my heart melting. Quickly, I shook my head to get rid of these thoughts.
"No! He's...No. I can't think of him like this. I can't." I sighed. "Pull yourself together, Riley. He's just a boy. A sweet, adorable looking...boy."
I then groaned. "Why must my heart twist up like this? Just because of some stranger..."
