You wake up on June 22nd, a day before your birthday. You hop on your computer to check the entries on your Penana contest when an ad pops up and catches your eye.
"Birthday video game. Slightly Educational, Entertaining Birthday Fun! Click the link below to begin your immersive, magical birthday adventure!"
As a lover of edutainment and tomorrow being the day you were born you click on the blinking ad. A bright white light flashes as everything goes blank.
You open your eyes too see that everything around you is fake. In fact it looks like a video game. You sit up and look down at your hands which look like they've been animated. You run your hands through your long dark hair to see that even your thick curls have been pixelated. You stand up and see a text box floating in the air.
"Player 1; Enter Name Here."
A giant keyboard appears in the ground. You step on the keys to spell out Ria N. Chetty. You leap on the enter key and it takes you to a room with grey walls. A white smart board comes down in the middle of the room.

You walk up to it and the same large keyboard appears on the floor. You step on the letters that spell out Australia. Coins fall from the sky as you walk into them. The next question appears.
“Australia is also called what? (Hint: nickname)”
You spell out the Land Down Under and more coins fall from the sky. You collect them as the number total near your name grows.
“What language is this word written in? Write this word in English. जन्मदिन “
You jump on the keyboard immediately. Hindi; birthday, you type feeling proud that you are bilingual. More coins fall from the sky as you leap to catch them. The room changes and the room becomes white.
“Player Ria N. Chetty has completed level 1 with 30 coins. Would you like to move on to level 2?” A voice reads as a text box swirls around.
You jump on the space bar and it takes you to a mini game you play before the next level. You are standing at the beginning of an animated grassy landscape. A white textbook that says ‘move when ready’ blinks above your head. As soon as you take a step forward, lo-fi starts to play. You jump, run and duck to the beat of their songs. You collect more coins as you leap from hill to hill. You jump off a hill and walk up to a mountain before realizing you can jump that high. You turn around to see a trampoline. You jump on it but it doesn't a bounce you high enough to reach the top of the mountain. You jump back onto the hill you just came from. You jump off of it and onto the trampoline. You bounce so high that you shake some coins out of the clouds. When you land on the trampoline again you leap forward and jump onto the mountain. You see a giant star floating in front of you. You slowly poke it until it bursts. A trumpet blares as confetti flies through the air.
LEVEL 2. A video game voice calls out as the room changes again.
You are transported to what appears to be a runway of sorts. There is a meter on the top of the screen and a circle above it. The walls and floor light up and you realize it’s a dance game. A medley of Panic! At The Disco songs play as you follow the moves provided. The game shouts things like "Fabulous", "nice moves" or "you're a rockstar", every so often. Next Stressed Out by Twenty Øne Piløts plays. The squares below your feet light up with every step you take. Then Heathens plays as images from the music video flashes around you. The last song you dance too is still TØP and it’s Ride. At the end your points are counted and balloons fall on your head.

The keyboard appears on the ground and you jump on the space bar. The keyboard stays as a room forms around you. In front of you the wall looks like a giant computer screen.
"Let's play Meme N Match. How well do you know your Memes? Let's find out!" The game shouts.
The keyboard lights up as a sentence appears on the screen. It says to name 3 frog memes. You think for a moment before leaping from key to key to spell out, Evil Kermit, Dat Boi and Pepe the Frog. You run to hit enter and the screen lights up green. Next it asks you to finish this meme. It shows a picture of a man in brown clothes holding up his hand in a circle. You think about the message you want to put before typing ''One does not simply forget Ria N. Chetty''s B-day." You hit enter as a camera flashould goes off and your meme is saved. You get coins for using the right format for this meme. Next it asks what meme would you use if you wanted someone to go outside and fight you. You type " Cash Me Ousside, Howbow Dah?" and when you hit enter her image pops up on the screen. Lastly it asks you to pick 1 popular meme to create a random birthday meme for you. You pick the distracted boyfriend meme to be used to make your meme. Music plays and the room glows as the number 14 fills the walls.
"Player Ria N. Chetty has completed level 3 with 40 coins! Would you like to move on to the final level?" The video game voice asks.
You jump on the space bar and Your keyboard dissapears. The phrase “ Education is Key” flashes on the ground as an arrow points to the entrance that has just appeared infringe of you. 627Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡQmNM8YFZ0a
“Get ready to enter the number maze! Hope you like to count and maybe get wet! Start when ready,” the game explains.
“Whoo, Edutainment! I am ready for numbers!” You shout excitedly as you run forward.
You see a glass tank about 10 feet away from you. A water gun floats above your head. As soon as you reach up and grab it a text box appears. It says to fill the tank so that it is 3/4ths full. You use the water gun to fill up the tank. You go a little over and the front glass falls forward causing all the water to come rushing towards you. Despite being drenched in water you laugh as it resets itself. You refill it again, only to 3/4ths this time. The large tank slides out the way. You drop the water gun and continue into the maze. You turn a corner and there is cake on a table.
The text box above it reads “You want to share a birthday cake with all 28 of your Penana followers. How many cakes should you get and how many pieces should you cut it in so that it is all gone?”
You debate whether you want 7 cakes and everyone get's a huge piece or if you want four and everyine gets a small piece. You walk up to the cake and see written on it is __ cakes and __ pieces. You pick of the icing tube and fill in the blanks with 7 and 4. Sure enough 6 more cakes cut into 4th's appear around you. The one you just wrote on splits into 4 pieces. You grab a slice and continue through the maze. You almost drop your cake when you see that the maze suddenly stops. In front of you are 10 waterside's labeled from 0 - 9 all lined up next to each other. A text box appears.
"Slide down the slides of the correct number to write out your birthday. Slide left and right to make sure you go down the right slide. The format is MM/DD/YY. Start when ready!"
You grab a floaty disk that's your favorite color and walk over to the slide labeled 0. You sit down in the floaty while grabbing the plast if handle on the sides. You push yourself forward and plunge down the slippery slope. You see the next set of numbers 1-9 coming up and you lean your body so you go all the way across the numbers to go through the 7 slide. It lights up as you go down it.
"July!" The video game announcers shouts enthusiastically.
You begin to speed up a date water splashes your body as you come up on the next set of numbers. You have to slide all the way back to.the left and you almost miss the number 2 slide. You do go through the correct slide and it lights up as you do. The next slide is easy because the number 3 is right beside it. You do a spin and slide down this waterside backwards. The 3 slide glows as water swirls under you.
"23rd!' The voice yells excitedly.
You lean to the left so you can make it back to the 0 slide. This one twista and turns as you rush down it. You cruise for a bit until you see the final slides. These ones are covered and look like tunnels. You quickly adjust so that you are on your belly and you lean so that you are headed towards the slide labeled 4. It lights up and water sprinkles lightly onto you from all directions. It's slightly muffled but you can hear the game shout "04" from outside the slide. The water at the bottom of your floaty gets faster as you near the end of the slide. You come out at the bottom and land inside a pool. You flip to your back and look up to the animated blue sky.
"Player Ria N. Chetty has completed level 4 with 50 coins! Would you like to try the bonus question? Hit Space for yes or Esc for no," The game offers.
You think about it before jumping on the space bar one last time. You are now sitting in what looks like a virtual version of your room.
"You can answer this question verbally! If today is June 23, 2018 then how old would a person be of they were born on June 23, 2004?" The game asks.
"14!" You shout as you leap to your feet.
Coins fall from the sky and you reach out to receive them. A podium that says 1st place comes up from under your feet.
"Player Ria N. Chetty has completed the birthday game with 300 coins. You are super! Press any key to exit game! Thank you for playing," The voice sings.
You look around one more time before jumping off the podium and onto the keyboard. The same bright white light from earlier flashes and then you are back in your room, except it's not animated this time. You are also notanimated. You look at the time ad see that you've been playing for 4 hours. You remember that you never checked your penana contest and walk back over to your computer. Next to it you see 300 dollars neatly in a stack. On top of it is a sticky note that says "Thank you for playing the Birthday Virtual Reality Game. Hope to see you next year!"
